What did you do to get the plain side? Overlay with plasticard?

These compos are often found quite cheap on ebay if they are wrecks. I was going to do another but it was diverted to another project.
First attempt was to fill the windows with plasticard blanks & then fill with filler. However you could still see the outline through the paint. In the end I overlaid it with a thin layer of plasticard over half of the vehicle. It has to be thin to avoid a step by the door. It needs the windows filling to prevent the overlay bowing.whatlep said:Oh that I like a lot!

I was wondering about building up one of the 1950s 4-wheel coach rebuilds on the OBB when they were converted into brake vans for the Waldviertalbahn and Ybbstalbahn...
Initially I thought about using one of these DR/HSB vans - but I now think I'd start with an LGB 4-wheel coach and some spare parts from Modell-land, mainly the glazing units from these DR/HSB style coaches. They'd require a totally scratchbuild body but that's the best way I think to get something representative of the prototype.

Very interesting. Thanks for the explanation. I've been thinking on and off about doing something like that, but pretending that the passenger windows had been removed and steel plate welded behind them. Your approach is considerably neater. We as modellers worry WAY too much about color matches, lettering, etc. Go to a railcar repair facility and see how much time they spend getting things "correct". They are paid for turn-around, not fidelity of colors and lettering for sure.
And that is assuming that the prototype cars were the same green, several railways had quite a range of the same "color". PKP coach green was the worst, anything from a light green to a dark olive was correct!stockers said:
