Riograndad
Model Railroading, boats and oil painting,

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine was given a Rogers 2 4 2 in a box in bits, together with a little track and a couple of cars, think a relation passed on to him,(HE A 00 MAN)
anyway this wreck was brought round to me to see if i could do anything with it?OH DEAR,,,was my reaction when the box was opened, total mess, screws, bits of all shapes and sizes loose in the bottom,i have posted a pic of the cab here to show general condition,BAD!!!Only thing to do was to see if it ran,the chassis was at least in one piece and to my total suprise it did,,,and the lights worked, but no smoke unit.Leave it with me and i"ll see what i can do with it?After going through all the bits, taking the kinks out of bent pipework, sorting where certain screws went etc i decided all it really needed new was a cab and a bunker added,I made the cab side sheets square for looks and made the bunker roughly the same size as an Otto with some dummy coal, all the stock handrails reused,I also dumped the capping on the stack, giving a cleaner look,by the colour of the inside of the tank I think it started life as a Great Northern, dark green,it had already been painted over but should be able to salvage the rest,so work started and here is the result,as it is"nt mine not much detail was added(rivets etc)just kept it plain and simple
finished off with a coat of humbrol satin black and the engineer is only a borrow
The rear coupling will come from the tender, which he does"nt want, says i can have that, think i may make a snow plow from that duno yet,as for a reaction to the finished loco,,,,,,,,his wife wants a railway in the garden now, they got more track this week, plan to start railway in new year,at least a loco to start them off!another convert to the hobby ,AT LEAST GOING OUTSIDE NOW!!!!
