das waren für mich böhmische Dörfer (gummitwist)

But as I 'did' French (badly) Google was my friend..

“That were for me Bohemian villages (rubbertwist)” ? According to my Oxford Duden German Dictionary. Gummibänder is rubber bands, one of my favourite German words, along with Auspuff - exhaust.

The suggestion was that 'Gummitwist' was 'double-dutch'
