Great job Richie, that weathering looks really effective. Especially like the grass :clap:.

Re:Gondola & Logging Caboose Build

Grass eh Richie?
Well I went out yesterday for the first time in a few weeks to do some garden clearing and discovered that some of my rolling stock that gets left out (with well protected metal work though) has got moss and algae growing on it. The cars are also getting more of a 'natural' weathering look as well (the 'green' look is probably not a wonderfully realistic one though :bleh: ).
I took a couple in to see if any of the plastic was suffering but nothing is any more brittle than before or warped.
So I have a feeling that my future paint weathering sessions might be less arduous than I had anticipated as some has been done already (bar the removal of the algae and moss!)

Hi Mike
My cars have also lost there shine some have two tone paint work from the sun will have to turn the cars around so the sun can bleach the other sides  Some of the pick ups seem to be full of mud from worm mounds , do you ever repaint your cars Mike ??
On the subject of moss and algae would the roofs on logging caboose's be covered in moss from being in the woods as i'm in the middle of weathering mine ??

Re:Gondola & Logging Caboose Build

Yes I do repaint them if they are starting to look unrealistically tatty as opposed to 'weathered'

The logging cabooses would definitely have moss on the roofs in the wet season but the moss would be brown during the summer!

Re:Gondola & Logging Caboose Build

Haven't had much time lately for my trains what with work and building sheds for the garden . Managed to find a bit of time today to add the lights to my logging caboose have also made a start on the weathering have added green and yellow paint to the roof so it looks like moss . Just got the chassis and wheels to weather then it's on to the next flat car :D

Re:Gondola & Logging Caboose Build

Cheers Steven
The figures are from Woodland Scenics got them from Garden Railway Centres several years ago have been sat on my station all this time and the paint has faded so instead of repainting them i put them inside the caboose . The caboose happens to be the old Santa Fe one i had from you last year . I see your getting on with your Mack loco looks very nice so far .
