Gondola & Logging Caboose Build

Now the weather has got warmer in the garage i made a start on my Logging Caboose and Low Sided Gondola heres a few pics of the work so far .

Gondola made of wood and built on a Bachmann flat car

Decals added West Side Lumber Co

Interior of the caboose just waiting for the battery box and lights to come

Completed caboose made from wood on a Bachmann bobber caboose bodie with wet & dry paper used for the roof

Both just need weathering to go with the rest of the logging stock

awesome work on them!! LOVES IT good idea about the details inside the caboose!!....will do tht myself one day anytime in dry and warm day......wink....are u using real wood logs?..from tree branches richie?

Many thanks for all your kind comments hope to start the weathering on the gondola first was looking at rubbing fine sand paper over the the red oxide wood body & decals to make the car look well used .
Steven i do use real logs on my cars ( Acer Campestre ) field maple. Have one more flat car to build and 2 boxcars which will be a camp car and a work car and may be one of my tankers will be a tar car.

Richie great bashes as always. Nothing beats real wood. Just an idea cut those bottom pieces between the trucks on the caboose. It will look even better.. Those woodland scenic checker players are great. I just got them about a month ago for my General Store front.
Im in the process of making some skeleton log cars. Basicalt the same as the bachmann but real wood. I want them to match with my limax. Always look forward to your builds. Here is the same caboose I did with the sides cut off. The layout my stuff is running on is on a club member layout.

Many thanks for your comments Shawn , do like your caboose does look different with those brackets cut out , may see if i can do it on mine with out scratching the new paint .
Have done a bit more on the gondola tonight have rubbed over the decals and body work with fine sand paper to give a weathered worn look .

hi richie...yes same as me rub down the decals with sandpapers to make look worn out! awesome....so fred the dragon are scatchbuilting me a loggin and wagons.....

so u doing a exellent work on it!!..so i have to find a good woods from my area but maple? mmmm..are they strong? and what is like?.....

u buy them or ?.....

Finished off weathering the gondola today and added some brown chippings to the floor .

Hi Richie,

i´ve done this "heavy used look" an a highside gondola, too, and i must say: its worth it! Looks very fine!
I´d like to have one of those lazy dogs, like it!

Got my Red Oxide Primer from Ebay the make is Simoniz and comes in 500ml cans .

Cheers Mike , hope to get all the log train freight cars built ready for the summer will bring them down to your next open day Be nice to see them in a proper log yard like yours can't see me having time this spring to build any buildings for mine as Sara's got plans for me to redecorate the hall stairs and landing ain't i the lucky one .
By the way hows the build going on your boxcar ??

Well spotted Steven Have added bits of grass to most of my old weathered stock one even has some bushes growing on it
