Several years ago, before the move to Stafford, G-Rail was combined with the ALSRM show at Reading for one year... personally I thought it made for a really good show, but I was obviously in the minority on this because it wasn't repeated.

I thought it was a good idea too and it made the Show eminantly more accessible as well being within walking distance of Reading Railway Station. The Stafford Showground will never attract a visit from me, in truth the only reason that I go to the 16mm Show at Peterborough is because I can drive to it in around 30 minutes. Shows at locations not accessible by Public Transport are a phenomina that is being played out all over the country now. I can to a degree understand it as the Shows have outgrown Town Venues and the ones selected have space and are affordable. The likes of many Town Centre Venues are difficult and of course Parking is always an issue as well, not one that will be a problem at the major Showgrounds like Stafford and Peterborough.

Its nottingham . Not Peterborough..

The Reading show was the last I attended. No problem accessing by public transport, even gave me a ride on an HST from Paddington to Reading, a type of train I rarely travel on. I thought it was a good idea to have a joint show and felt it was one of the better G-Scale shows I had attended.

Only problem at Reading was being dis-enfranchised as the AGM was held in a small squash court (or similar) and once it was full other members wishing to attend were prohibited from entry by a rather abusive doorman. Not very nice.

Moving to Nottingham from Stafford is an improvement but its still a long drag from the far south east corner.

Both the 16mm mob and G rail offer a bus service from the local railway station - so public transport is easily available.

Location is always going to be a problem. Its always 'too far' for half the population, money certainly comes in to it and just finding a suitable location is not easy.

Stafford seem to be geared to 'tables with dogs on' and horses outside..
Oh, and you need to come on a tractor, if you have to park on (most) of the grass!

If they got their act together (it ain't difficult, these days) and had WiFi in the huts we use, and better availability of mains-power, there would not be a problem..
Dealers having to 'nip outside' to get card readers to work is off-putting for Traders, and Customers, alike.

I didn't realise there is a shuttle bus for the Stafford show. I can't see any details on the website.
One of the local preservation groups is involved and have provided vehicles for a shuttle to Stafford station as well as an on-site circular run to the minature railway. They usually have some of their buses on display as well.

Does anyone make a dual-gauge axle?? - One with three wheels, already set-up??
;):confused:o_Oo_O:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Do you want the extra wheel on the left, or right side ?
I'm pretty sure that the Aussie/NZ dual gauge axles 'change hands' when they either cross the Equator ( I know the Neptune brand ones certainly do), or transit in LAX (where they are possibly altered to Imperial measurement as well). Roll on Brexit, when such everyday items such as these dual gauge items will no longer have to comply with Euro standards.

I STILL reckon we (in the UK) should get our 10 Volts back, on Brexit, as well!

Won't be going this year, long way to travel for me and I am working that weekend!! Nearest show for me is Exeter and that is 100 miles east .. At one time the g scale and 16 mm shows were at Stoneleigh showground near Coventry, Saturday and Sunday on the same weekend !!

Not in my living memory mate. G Rail has been in Rugby, Nottingham and Stafford. If it ever was at Stoneleigh, it must have been a good few years ago.

Don't forget the one year it was at Reading, combined with the ALSRM show (which is on again this coming Saturday, and well worth a visit)......

Forgot that one - ta.

The first couple of G Rails I attended were at Stoneleigh!
