Eighton Bahn AKA testing testing RhB

Doctor Pepper and jelly beans. What a sugar rush !.....:giggle:

Then it's yogurt and water.....Was that your penance.....

So having done one end of the station, today was time to have a look at the other one.

...you hardly have time to check on the wildlife.
You're just trying to make us all envious. And, it's working.

Madman Madman , subsitute ice cream for yought and cream soda for water and you'll get there.

FatherMcD FatherMcD , er no, but if it's working i'll take it.

Ah, cream soda. Haven't had that since I was a kid. So more sugar. Don't feel alone, I have a very sweet tooth also. When I was a young lad, my mother would sometimes give us toast with butter, cinnamon topped with a sprinkle of sugar.

I saw a documentary some years back about how our American food industry changed over time. Before the war, lard was being pushed. After the war it was sugar. I think most of us who grew up in the fifties can attest to that.

A few weeks ago I was given some small sealed 12v batteries which were been disposed of, which I though I could use to power the station lights, if they could be revived.
So yesterday with the arrival of a charger I tried to do just that. Only three of them managed to take a charge, but not up to the full voltage. So last evening I tried them out on the lights. Had to resort to parallel set up with two of them to get any oomph for the lights and it didn't last long, Ah well back to the drawing board.

...but it was an excuse, not that you need one to run a train...

I have allways posted my disasters as well as my triumphs in this warts n all thread, so may as well get this next disaster posted.

I have long held a desire to build in to the psudo double track section into a pair of crossovers, in order to reverse a train from either direction. The however is that the double track, whilst it looks like that is infact opposite sides of an oval, just routed close together, so what would be +- & +- on parallel tracks is infact +- & -+ so a recipe for a short circuit by installing crossovers. So a reverse module would be required X 2. Easy peasy, so I thought, but no, as posted here...

So I have gone full circle as it were, or as is the case install, fail, rip out and re-instate to the as you were set up, whilst I do a rethink.

So to the damming evidence...

20250727_183758.jpg20250729_193126.jpg20250802_122304.jpg20250803_131744_04.jpg20250803_132613.jpg20250806_113940.jpg20250806_161421.jpg20250806_161709.jpg

...before, during and after, should have just stuck to the before.

Well after taking note of various suggestions, the job is now done, the first of the two crossovers is in, and all wired up...

20250810_133020.jpg20250810_154755.jpg

...thus opening up new operating possiabilities, which will be further enhanced when I get the opposite hand crossover in place. Once done a train will be able to leave the station in either direction, do a circuit back to the start, or be reversed and return back facing the opposite way.

All I have to do now is remember that turning the Navigator dial clockwise is forwards no matter which way the train is pointing. Aid to memory is simple for Stainz, D4 and MOW, as for the leccy locos, the rear pantograph is always up.

I have always had that issue of orientation as my line is down the garden and I like steam to be chimney first that way but controllers to turn the way trains go for the majority if the line. For Railcars and Diesels it is not always obvious which way is the way I need the thing to be. To assist I put a very small bit of red tape onto what I call the No.1 end thus facing down the garden and matching turn of the controller that way.

Reverse loops can throw this out of kilter some, but if you can remember the pan end then all is well.

There is a saying about not keeping a good man down, how that applies in my case I'm not sure, although I am not in the best of fettle currently. However today managed to start on the opposite direction crossover. It's much of a pending project upon the arrival of the final part, the other point, then the proper works can commence.

20250821_160012.jpg

...now the first point and the reversing trigger track is in, point is also wired up to the switch module, op no 33. and the wires go through the paving slab. What i need is the second point to arrive...

20250821_160027.jpg

...but if only I had a spare point motor or two, I could at least set one up in preperation...

20250821_160029.jpg

...again the wire running through the slab to the switch module. It's all to do with the henge construction the wires in this section at least can be run through the upright
slab supports, and the wire under the track will be rerouted under the slabs as part of the final tidying up works. You would think someone planned it that way in the building process, nope I am not that far thinking, just a happy accident.

Well it's all done and dusted, and I hate dusting, or to put it another way the second reversing crossover is in, wire tidy up and routed under the slabs for the most part.

20250823_111756.jpg

...now as most of you will no doubt know from personal experience, these things have to "tested" to to ensure they work...

...all for quality assurance purposes you understand, need to check the phone camera settings though, these photos appear a bit dark, but who cares. So now there is a new dynamic into the routing of trains, which will be explored over the coming days and weeks, weather and my health permitting.

I think I could get lost :worried::worried:

There are, after all, a LOT of possible combinations that will need to be thoroughly tested. But, you seem to be making a good start and holding up admirably to the inevitable stress.

I assume there were no issues this time with the Massoth revercing setup?

None have come to light up to now, now I have got my head around the wiring, in, out and sensors 1,2,3 & 4.
Great stuff, will give you lots more entertainment when running trains.
