Cheeky Monkey said:The LGB sound unit is the same price as a Massoth XLS and not as good, the Massoth S effectively upgrades the standard chip to an XLS and can be programmed with the same sounds i.e. not generic its under £100 only availabe from P&S Hobbies York in the UK as far as I can tell. I get mine from Germany for less £'s.
I find S chips are much better with a hall sensor

When I chipped the Stainz, I installed an L decoder in the boiler by attaching it to the PCB. I then placed a super flat speaker in the speaker enclosure below the roof of cab, covered the speaker with a thin sheet of palsic and laid an S decoder on top of that sheet of plastic. Every thing fit neatly under the roof, no rattle from the speaker, just nice sound. Slightly more expensive that an LS or XLS, but no surgery to the LGB original wiring or electronics.
