Coach roof removal

Welcome to the forum Sir!

Most roofs on LGB stock just clip on, but I'm not quite sure about the RhB coaches.

I doubt that they are screwed on though, so try to grip the roof and gently twist on one side, keeping the other side in place....

Thanks Gizzy, I'll try that. The instruction leaflet suggests pushing a screwdriver through the open door and up inside the roof where there's a small circular opening in the internal plastic moulding (as suggested in an earlier post) , but I haven't had any luck with that. I don't want to apply too much force!

You'll be fine. LGB is pretty much bombproof. Dan has also suggested a good technique....

There are six locating clips within the roof three each side, inboard of the doors and the ctr of the coach.
What I do is the open the doors and push out the side and pop the roof one at one end then use a thin piece of wood (Lolly stick) to ease along the side to the other end,
then pop the other side in the same way.
It's not the way the instruction show, they show doing both sides at one end at the same time, too faffy for me, and I have never got it to work, so my method works for me.

Instead of wood or lollipop sticks I use plastic glue spreaders from a general hobby shop. Being soft plastic they are flexible so do not damage the plastic of the model and there is no chance of them snapping. There again I suppose that if you snap anything then the technique is possibly wrong.

Ahh, this was the question that originally brought me to this forum after a Google search. I had purchased 2 cars and couldn't for the life of me find the way to open them.

I've since tried doing what Nodrog1826 Nodrog1826 and others have said with pushing up through the doors. I know these cars are sturdy but I guess I kept stopping just short of where I needed to get to for fear of snapping and breaking off a piece of plastic. I’m sure once I get the hang of it, it will become second nature.

My intent is to populate the coaches with passengers, and the Restaurant Car with kitchen and wait staff, people dining, food and drink on the table, and last but not least, paint the inside of the kitchen from base cream color.

I will try again tomorrow.

Closing out my entry on this. Went ahead this evening and went past my arbitrary pressure point. Success and just as easy as described. As Nodrog1826 Nodrog1826 mentioned, there was no mention of the tabs in the instructions.

When I start customizing the interiors, I have the humorous idea of having a passenger permanently stuck in the restroom

I don't want to dampen your plans, but the toilet should have a frosted/white window, not too sure but looking at the other photos, there is a white on at the other coach end.
I am guessing the coach sides are on the wrong way around. But as you now have the roof off, you may as well dismantle and rebuild it the right way.

Maybe not as the person stuck in the toilet joke wouldn't work. I suppose one could makebelieve (who doesn't in this hobby?) that the coach has a toilet at each end.

Would that involve flush glazing?

One of my coaches had clear glazing on the toilet window. I used a cut down plastic milk container to make an opaque inlay. The 4 pint ones are ideal.

Thats a difference coach to the one you sent a picture of originally ! so has a different opening style and involved the "squeeze" (Lgb technical term i think) method.

Just love the toilets, and most people dont even know there there due to the frosted windows, might have to put some new glass and an angered strainer in mine too, good idea.

If you want frosted glass in your toilet compartments, just lightly sand the inside surface with, dare I Say it, glass paper.

Or you could stick some white plasticard cut oversize glued to fit if you did not wish to dismantle the coach. Yeh even blue tack it in place to leave things completely un disturbed..

Loving the overnight (on my side of the pond) "loo" talk. LOL. :)The frosted window didn't occur to me to I just now went and checked the coach, and all 4 small windows on both ends are clear. I need to check my other passenger coaches now. I guess frosted windows are in the near future.
