how much do you pay for your butane?
my local hardware shop got in some for me
camping stove type, using new style push on [rather than screw on] adapter
over £4 a can

the new adaptor seems to leak more than the old type

B&Q old type go-system is £4.73 per 144g

has anyone come across a more reasonable alternative without going down the propane mix route?

At the G scale/16mm/large scale shows it is about £3 a can. I buy all I need then and hope that I don't run out before the next show!

Surely there's enough hot air generated in the Coffee Lounge to raise all the steam you need.

I use these

Works out at £1 a can if you buy 28 cans,

Ordered some 2 years ago and still haven't run out!!

I buy a shrink pack of four cans at $5 (£3.26) or $1.25 (£0.82) per can here in the US. The cans are the 8" tall type and contain 8 oz (227 g) of fuel. I find them at Korean or Asian grocery stores, not the usual suspects. (Who would have guessed?). They are used for portable stoves, BBQ's, or woks. I have found it interesting to find the cans in the grocery store (what's the equivalent UK name?). I wander around the store and finally find a display with them. I have tried asking one of the store workers where to find them, but my Korean/their English is insufficient, so I wander. It's kind of fun and I eventually find the cans. I should just photo a can and show them. Perhaps, next time.

I found the cans of butane lighter fuel in my local cash and carry. A packet of 12 cans cost about 50p a time.

Thanks for the tips
What size are the eBay ones Dan? I can't make it out

My local general store/hardware/ironmongers sells these 300ml Clipper canisters for 1.75 each.

My local cash/carry type place sells these for £1 each. Bought all 10 they had on the shelf so hopefully I can run some steam loco's this year!!

Cost of gas. It depends on how much you use it. :o
