Broome Lake & Eastern

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

The Directors have issued a memo stating that no stock should be bought from the Virginia and Truckee or the Denver and Rio Grande - the paint shop nearly went on strike.

Here's modified (thanks Graham) ex Virginia and Truckee #16 reliveried in BL&E colours (ooops, sorry - colors  )

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Another great day at dons, train testing as per great pictures.

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Nice photo's Don

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

More of the final layout of the Broome Lake & Eastern can be seen here.

The spur to the left of the picture will wind around and join on the "other" end of the shed board, and off that spur there will be a link for when Dudley brings his portable along for a day of trains

The new board in the middle is going to form part of the engine shed (sorry, locomotive maintenance depot, or whatever sheds are called in the US  )

Laid out on the right (with yellowish string) is the terminus, and off the headshunt (which will be along the fence line, hopefully about 12 feet long) a spur will run to the corner at top right - this will be coal and oil facility.

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

What control system are you using Don?

Train Engineer?

To track or to each loco....

Yes Train Engineer to each loco, Giz - same as Dudley.

Before I went over to the (virtual) dark side, I used a TE but controlling track power. Saw the one MBiff had, and decided it was for me!

But I've not seen it used yet for each loco, so I'd be interested to here how it works? I guess you used those 10 Channels along the top of the Tx unit to select each loco and have a Rx in each loco.

So is your track power always at max, or do you use battery power....

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

It's batteries in the locos Giz, and you can control up to 99 locos from the handset (a decoder in each loco) - I suppose it's like a radio-controlled DCC system.

Dudley understands it- he's far more clever that I ! :admire:

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Hi Don
Track layout looking spiffing mate.....

Are you using Aristo Revo? I have got a few decoders and a couple of handsets ready for my battery jobbies for when I want to run stuff either without any track power ( I use TE at the moment but a mix of DCC and TE later) or when track power locos are in operation and I can run the battery jobbies alongside them. As long as they are insulated!

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Hi Mike, well the box says it's a Crest CRE57000 2.4 Gig Train Engineer Revolution. Probabaly the same as (or is) the Aristo Revo. Dudley has the same outfit - in fact it's because he had his that I took up my interest in G again, having sold off most of the stuff I used to have - incluing a Conso to Dudley !!!

I'm not sure how a powered track system would work alongside this one - the thing that sold me was the ease of operation, no need for pernickity track cleaning, although it is kept fairly clean. Certainly, the way my track is laid, there's (sadly) no provision for track powered locos - that's left for the O gauge in the shed

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Hi Don
Aristo Revo is the just a shortening of the name so totally the same.
I will have to make sure that I have revo-ed a couple of locos for when I can visit your fine line!

Using battery locos alongside track powered ones is totally fine...as long as the pick-up wheels on the battery jobbies are insulated so they do not short the track.

Welcome any time Mike ! Not much to see at the moment though, just the trackwork - it'll be better when the circuit is complete (and better still when Dudley plugs himself in  )

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

Hi Don, yep that is the Aristocraft Revolution system. It works a treat.
Gee that looks like you'll have a real drivers operating railway there once you close to finished. (I guess like the rest of us it will never be "finished"!)

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

I think you're right there John, like any model railway it'll never be finished

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

UP the Revolution Don Like you and a few others im a big fan of the "Revo" but it might be worth fitting a few isolating blocks on your reverse loops so visiting locos can run on track power im sure it wouldnt be to differcult to sort out ive plenty of cheap controlers if you need one
Tony

Re:Broome Lake & Eastern RR

When it's all laid I might well take you up on the Tony, thanks

I've done a (VERY CRUDE) trackplan, in fact the planned track at the top of the picture is probably to be revised - especially the head shunt to the top left.

Gawd I used to know how to use these drawing packages - forgotten it all ! :( :
