Brand new and totally lost

I think the curtain-rail, errrr, rail (track, digging a hole here!) looks pretty good..
Decade, or so, ago you could pick it up for a song here.. Almost non-existent now I guess?

I have seen 1/8th inch metal rod used for track. Storage cassettes, for O gauge stock..

. The aluminium conducts electricity well if it's clean, I doubt there would be any difference from brass for inside use.

As the layout may be a high level suspended one cleaning may not be so easy. Maybe stainless steel or nickel silver rail is worth considering.

Stainless steel and nickel silver will always be best for electrical contact, but they're very expensive. Cost per meter for nickel silver is about eight times the cost of aluminium!

  1. Hi Guys, in Wiltshire (UK) we have a G scale society member, who runs a high level indoor railway, bracketed off the wall and using Perspex as the base, this way one can see the trains from all angles in the room.
  2. Adding low voltage LED lighting enhances the experience.
  3. Cheers. John. S.

I have a lot of 6ft lengths of Aluminum rail here in N. cal if you need some? it's all on plastic sleepers/ties probably at least 50ft or so if your interested?
