Just because it says live steam, doesn't mean you have to barbecue it :rolf::rolf:
 
Why is the first thing people say when they see the tray why are you cooking it.....

As much as I'd love to make it a Roundy Roundy, I don't have the money too and my parents don't want it to be noticeable. I don't mind running after it as I've had no problems so far with doing that. My only problem is it would be R1 curves in and around the station areas due to said lack of cash to afford larger curves/points for the whole line.

I'll have to talk to the landlords (parentals) and if they say yes to allowing such a line to be first designed then built.

Some how I'd incorporate baloon loops at each end..... using stealth or if necessary deception....
 
Instead of a cont. loop around the yard, why not use your current track plan but at the upper right corner instead of a passing siding put a reversing loop there creating an out and back layout. That way you don't have to run after it to stop it crashing off the end of track.
 
Difficult to fault it Jon old boy, but I dunno, it lacks a certain je ne sais quoi as that once great French statesman Jacques Clouseau would have said
 
As you will have noticed Jon, this lot will lead you into bad ways. Hee Hee.

Thanks. Fortunately, I had a chance to play with several live steam and 1:1 scale steam engines before I managed to get my own engine so I had a idea of what I was letting myself in for when I got it.

Well time for a couple of updates on both the layout and on the rolling stock fronts.

Firstly, the line has been moved for the 5th time this year (parents keep changing thier minds where it can live in the garden) while still keeping a loop of running track. Its not bad but I'd like to finally be able to come up with a track layout and scenic it with buildings and ballast for a change.

On a different note, I managed to save up enough to be able to buy a selection of IP Engineering kits from thier Ezee, Ezee Live Steam and N.W.N.G.R ranges. So far I've started work on 4 of them which the results shown below:-

You could do worse than show your parents some of the railways on this forum - Mel's (YB281) is a very good example (there are plenty of others but mine isn't one) - with the railway integrated into the garden while at the same time the garden is the backdrop for the railway. Although the initial basework and track bed look like a builders site once finished and planted things will look better, the rest is just adding on bits & bobs (don't quote me on that 8| ).

Evening all,

Thanks for all the comments but alas, on returning on holiday, the line had disappeared into the undergrowth again and following more agruments, its been moved onto the patio. Only downside of that is there has to be a siding onto the grass for steaming up on but apart from that, Its acturley a fairly long run. See below:-

Also, I've been able to do some more work on the coaching stock to the extend that when the IP Engineering roof fitting jig arrives, I'll have completed all 3 Coaches I currently have. Not bad for someone who generally can't build kits in 1:72 scale........

i could not get the roof jig to work for me so in the end used rubber bands for my whr set.

ps make sure you don't get super glue any ware near the windows ..

Do you have any more pics of your indoor layout? Or even a trackplan? What is the overall size of it? It looks really interesting.
