Big Haulers Loco Motor Noise ....

Hi to all.....
I have just got a Bachmann Big Haulers loco and tender. I believe it is an early one as it has plastic running gear and I have to put a 9 volt battery in the tender to get sound. At least it works though ;D
My question is about the amount of noise coming from the motor..... it is quite loud compared to my Thomas stuff and indeed my 45 Ton Diesel that has 2 motors.

Anyone with these locos found the same ?

Yeah I have an early one I got very cheap. It has a lot of gear noise.

While they have always had a bit of a reputation for noisiness, it would be worth making sure that you don't have either a completely dry gearbox or one with a build up of dried oil/grease. The motion also contributes some noise, particularly if one of the piston or connecting rods is a bit bent.

As said, they can be quite noisy. Lubrication of all moving/pivoted parts recommended. The 9v battery goes right back to the first (R/C) Big Haulers. I keep wondering if fitting a different sound unit would drown out the gear noise. Probably not!

PS - Use plastic friendly lube/gear grease!

;) Thanks for answering peeps...
I cleaned out the old white grease, which to be honest had not gone off. Re-lubed everything with normal model oil but was way worse....

After 4 more try's I ended up using red general purpose grease applied with a cocktail stick to the relevant gearbox parts....
Sorted, a lot quieter and runs a lot smoother.

Cheers Andy.
