Beaver Tail Flat Car Build

Have wanted a bulldozer to go with my log train for some time now but have had no luck finding one that was until Steve at Back2bay6 had a second hand one at the Telford Show sat on a unknown make of flat car could be a Hartfords but not sure . The flat car and bulldozer have been poorly painted so i thought about building a Beaver Tail flat car to carry the dozer as i remember seeing one on a video of a work train on the Durango & Silverton . To start the build i needed to make the deck longer as the Bachmann trucks and couplings were to far away from the deck .Cut both ends off and then on one end cut the deck with a V so that i could bend the deck down to make the beaver tail . Then cut out some plastic card for the flat car bodie sides making it 15mm longer each end ,the ends which were removed earlier were then glued back in place making the deck 30mm longer . The deck was then finished off with the good old wooden coffee stirrers . Found a tool box from a old Bachmann tender that sits on the front to house the chains also the chain hooks on the deck came from the lift bar brackets of a old Bachmann flat car . Just needs painting and weathering now and the bulldozer will get a new coat of paint too .

Spray painted the flat car with red oxide primer paint last night and just need to apply a few decals .
Then it's on to the weathering
With the bulldozer i need to repaint it first before i weather it as the paint is very poor close up .

Good to hear from you thought you must have been away on holiday . Used to use the computers in the library too before we got our lap top one hour a week on saturday with the kids .

The dozer is new - just being delivered - hence it is clean but with a 'carp' paint job.

Not sure if this is the right term for this type of flat car :thinking: Had a look on google but couldn't find any photos of this flat car just lorries , we have a Beaver Tail flat bed lorry at work so just thought the railroad one would be called the same .
Will have to bring it on our next visit (A Beaver Tail in Beaver Creek ) sounds like a title for a film

so, is loading procedure, 2 sleepers between rails, plus one either side outside, topped off with bed of sleepers across the top?

got an archive photo somewhere of a Newton Abbot firms dozers (Harveys?) working on a demolition of an overbridge in Wiltshire somewhere with the track protected with sleepers

Didn't give it a thought about about loading sleepers sound good , or they could also use the logs that they have just cut down .
Started to weather the car tonight very pleased with it so far pics to follow tomorrow

Heres a few pics of the finished flat car
Weathered the car bodie with polished steel paint with silver in the centre to give the effect of the paint worn down to bare metal this was then finished off with weathering powders, sand paper was used on the deck to remove paint to show some bare wood . This was then sprayed with Matte varnish
Have also made a start on the dozer first by repainting the yellow using a yellow that wasn't so bright looks more like a CAT yellow

I seem to remember as a kid having a few BlawKnox dinkey dozers of a really odd scale that look about your scale??​
