BATTLEFIED LINE SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2024

On our return home on Sunday from Chesterfield I decided to visit the Battlefield Line at Shackerstone. I arrived in time to take the first train which left for Shenton. An Ex GWR tank engine 5199 provided the motive power for the train.

I also a rather unusual train movement pass through the station including an electric loco:

The one loco I was not able to photo, and perhaps just as well was a rather forlorn Class 44/45 which seemed to have the engine and most internal fixtures removed. It looked in a very sorry state.

I believe that I may have ridden on a handcart as a paying guest on a short part of that line about 48 years ago
