battery diesel for the sodum line

i was given (amongts other g scale mad peeps) a nice freelance diesel bare body many years ago - built by malcom of the pbmm .
anyhoo the lad attacked it with a selection of paints its sat on the shelf for yrs .

well i have finally made a start on building it into a battery operated diesel

after routing thro the odds and ends in the garage - i came up with a motor block and other build materials and a chassis was constructed for the body .

here is the progress to date .

Blimey Bud, I thought that first pic was dead clever the way you showed where the motor block would fit in the chassis. Thought you'd been playing with photoshop? :admire::admire:

Then I realised you'd made the chassis from perspex.

Gonna look brill.

been routing thro the bits boxes and came up with some batteries that will fit in the nose of the loco
thanks to some old r/c toy cars

next i was trawling the internet for a suitable speed controller and considered building one . anyhoo by chance on one of the many interweb sites done review on the hornby starter set controllers , considering the specs inc back emf - i stripped one down and got my meter on it . twas a huge board of gubbins so i trimmed it up ridding the bridge rectifier as i was battery dc power (twas 16v ac input) and the ac output for pionts ect

speed controller was bench tested and work,s a treat - bonus too the board also has a direction switch - ding dang do .

bit of a squeeze but it will fit

found some copper rivets - altho a tad long twas fine after cutting them down

drill lots of holes and glue in shortened rivets
