New diesel for the WGLR

Just realised that I haven`t rounded off this topic and a lot of work has been done on this most useful diesel.

In the end I gave up on the Playmobil running gear and RC replacing them with an LGB motor block (actually the motive power block from my old track cleaner which I`d actually sold - it`s a long story  ;)  ), a Cliff Barker reciever/speed controller and a Strikalite battery pack. The battery pack has proved to be a revelation being a 9.6v AAA pack (product ID 776). It`s very compact, but enables the loco to run all day without any problems doing exactly that at both last year`s Telford and Llanfair shows on the West Mids GSS shunting layout John`s Yard, as well as on the WGLR of course.

Various detailing has also been done including vacuum pipes, lamp irons, more handrails, safety chains, windscreen wipers etc. As you would expect, it`s also had a weathering job with the airbrush. BR crests are from Fox Transfers and number plates are Roundhouse.

Very nice Vid Mel. Are you all battery powered now?

Really nice Mel. Captures the style of the loco admirably.

I've used AAAs, not through choice but because I just couldn't make enough AAs fit, in one of my locos. I was quite worried about running time but shouldn't have been; I get at least two hours out of the 2-6-0 they're in and it now pulls better than it did when track powered. I still don't think I'd use them if there was room for AAs; but if not I would certainly not hesitate to do so again.
