A real pity the site owners had no interest, and refused access to those who did.. :(

Yes, a shame really, as the local area group of the GSS kept it going for a while....

When I first saw it on ebay, it didn't show any of the rolling stock! Another thing (forgive my lack of knowledge), there does not seem to be a reserve on it - except for the statement that' offers of £1,000 wouldn't be looked at' - so are they (the seller/s) obliged to sell it at the final bid price even if it's £45K under the "valued" price?

You have triggered an old memory Mick - It's 6 years since I sold anything on Ebay but I remember that you could "pull" and auction up to 12 hours before its scheduled finish time for a number of reasons. There are certain rules but I remember a couple of occasions I did that (in about 1000 "no reserve" auctions) as I was not satisfied there was the interest to drive bids to an acceptable level.

The last time I used that facility was because my father had died, 6 years ago now, and I had to nip off swiftly to Spain for his funeral and would not be able to manage the sales, communications and fulfilment from that location in a reasonable time. I had to swiftly stop 10 auctions a couple of days ahead of time and it was the only time I had a complaint from a bidder. They insisted that I must sell one of the items, at what would have been half the market value (A 1:12 Protar Ferrari 126 C2 F1 car kit at around £50 rather than £100+), to them as they were the highest bidder at the time I stopped the auctions and they were going to get me struck off Ebay if I did not sell it to them at that price. They knew full well that they would have got a bargain if I had capitulated which is probably why they kicked off. Total BS, they never got anything and I'm still listed there. I did not think such a greedy attitude even deserved an explanation of the circumstances and is probably why I have never sold another item on that platform. One day maybe...... I still have that Ferrari kit, I might build it one day soon, I'm getting quite productive in the current circumstances :) . Max

The kit in question

Was that the Railway that Badly Drawn Roy (or was it Ron) of GS Mad was involved with?

A seller can cancel an auction before it finishes, even if it finishes, although under contract can cancel the sale for specific reasons. They do however get a little spank from Ebay and if done several times within a time period, have to wait for their received payments to clear in PayPal. Ebay seem to have no intention in forcing anyone to do a sale or make payment, they just assist in protecting both sellers and buyers from getting ripped off in a transaction.

They probably should set a reserve price to play right unless of course, they are happy for it to go to the highest bidder.

Norfolk - edge of nowhere.
The thing is a reserve price will incur an up-front cost whether it sells or not and I suspect they didn't want to pay it.

Ooooh! I just spotted a green Mikado and some Orient Express pullmans. Where's me plastic?

I think Mike will be correct. - The present site / railway owners do not really know it's proper worth, and you can see it does not get looked after except by those who go to run on it..
Am led to believe access was becoming erratic, and other than the railway, and power, there were limited-to-no 'facilities' available..

It would be 'interesting' to win the bid.. It does say free delivery, but I doubt it would be so? :wondering:

Ah! I didn't know that there is a charge for having a reserve. Sometimes with these types of large collection sales, there is separate blind auction as direct offers going on. Once a private agreement is made, the listing will disappear and eBay don't get their cut. Nudge, nudge. wink, wink. Say no more! ;):lipssealed::angel:

Some nice stuff but also some rather worn out / broken items. The Mike looks in an iffy state, is that part of its running gear next to it? I wouldn't value the lot very highly, certainly only a fraction of the £50k they mention.

Buyer dismantles I guess. Won't be me :)

H
ave you no self control, Mike, when it comes to trains?!!

No, nor me.... as a shed full of rolling stock that I am unlikely to want to use proves.
But I had to do something, like continually buying, while waiting the 15 or so years to get a line built, didn't I?

Having talked to someone who knows..

Much of the stock, in the linked-too video, does not belong/go with the layout.
(In case anyone was feeling flush and adventurous!)
Assume you would (probably) get what is in the photo's..

It is not modular either.. So how much of the scenery could you take-away? :wondering:

The bids are up to £6.500 with 2 days to go. I can't see it going for a whole lot more. There is a lot of track but as for the base board, it would be a huge pain to dissemble, de-nail, transport and store. Essentially only being worth the time it takes to mess with it.

If you have a big enough vehicle and enough space at home it'll probably be worth it, something to do during the lockdown

I think you have to factor you will have to take it apart.. You will have to lift the track.. Stock has been left out, in a greenhouse (basically) for a number of years.. All will need a clean and lub-job.. The electrolytics will have dried out, so you might have some work there?.. I doubt there will be original boxes, and they will have suffered from damp, sun, slug and snail attack (probably)..

You have to assume, what you see in the pictures, is what you get. - NOT what is in the video..

Personally, I reckon if you got it for 7K, cleaned it up and sold it on, I doubt you would make much on the deal??
(Of course, there could be more stock, more track, and other items.. But it is a heck of a punt, I reckon). :wondering:
