back up battery for my loco sound - which one?i

Hi,

I am using analog power (plain old DC!) and will be fitting a 'mylocosound card' to a loco. To keep the sound when the loco is stopped a back up battery is needed: what size can be recommended please? (7.2 - 9.6 v is suggested)

A removable one for charging could be a bit of a fight to take out & re chargeas they would be in a tender Any ideas please?

[align=center]A PP3 size rechargeable should do but check as they sometimes are higher than stated 9 volts , but you would need to arrange a switch and charger socket,

PP3 batteries are the most popular. However, you may need two of them in parallel if you like using high volume settings. When the volume is set high and the whistle is sounded then the current drawn can be too much for one PP3 and it can shut the soundcard down for a couple of seconds.

So I suggest two PP3s in parallel and a switch and charger socket like Pete suggests.

PP3 are generally 8.4 volts (Alkaline). Some NiMH's are now stated at 9v/250 milliamps. I have not seen any above this mA rating.
Anybody? because someone on GSC stated they run a PP3 9v @ 1000 milliamps (1 amp) ....I wish!!

I've seen claims for half that rating, at a price.
