Bachmann's New Thomas Christmas Set.....

As most of you will know by now. I have started my G-Scale Empire by buying and building up on the TTT Engine and Friends sets and loco's etc....

What I am wondering is..... Can any one tell me what curves are included in the supplied sets ?

I have now both LGB brass track and Bachmanns brass track as supplied with the new Thomas Christmas Set.

I would like to know if they are R1,R2 ETC.....

Is there any detail of the Bachmann track measurements with the instructions that come with the sets?  There`s usually some sort of diagram giving the overall space required for the track.  Otherwise measure the diameter of a circle of the Bachmann track, track center to center?    I`ll bet it`s probably pretty much the same as LGB R1 which is approx. 4 foot diameter (give or take a few mm).

2` radius / 4` diameter seems to be the minimum curve offered by most of the G manufacturers.  It`s the larger radius curves that tend to differ by manufacturer. Watch out for the same designation (eg. R3) meaning different radius for say Piko .v. LGB.

<edit>Bachmann website seems to say the supplied oval is 5`4" by 4`3", that`s probably outside to outside measurements so that would make the center to center diameter about 4` as I thought.</edit>

Here`s a comparison chart I drew up some time ago to try and make sense of *some* of the manufacturers` relative curve radius.  It`s out of date and doesn`t include Bachmann but might still be useful if you can make sense of it?

R1, most definetly ;)

Nick, not that you can easily get them anymore, but Aristo also made a 32" and 21" diameter track circles :o

Sadly for some reason, Bachmann do not include any track numbers or indeed radii numbers on their track...
I do think however as stated that it is R1.

I now have a similar oval by LGB and must admit need to check if that has code numbers on it.....

Cheers Andy.

Information about the Bachmann brass track range is on their web site:
