Today I used my Bachmann Lyn to test my track. Lithium Ion powered (4S), with RC Trains MR603 Rx/ESC. I ran the loco around my track a few times with no issues, then it was coffee time, parked the loco in the tunnel, with the Rx on, and I could hear the MLS, sound quietly. When I came out 30 minutes later the loco was still making a sound, but had lost connect ion with the Tx (this is not the issue), switch off the loco and back on, connection made, ran it part way around the track and it stopped, no sound and no lights. LVC (low battery) was my though so went to connect the (smart) charger, and I get a "connection break" error.
So no power to the charging point (standard RC Trains configuration) and no power to the Tx, so a break between the switch and battery. However on returning to the loco 30 minutes later (having placed it in the workroom) the power was back on, and all was working.
My thoughts are the poly fuse (2 amp I think) had activated, possibly due to heat, took a while to reset and then all is fine, is this feasible, as the only thinks between the battery and switch is the BMS and polyfuse.

Two things come to mind:

By default, the sleep timer in the MR603 is set to one hour (Deltang were set to two hours).

From v1. 8.1 RC Trains MR603 (denoted by a 'T' on one of the chips) will be set to two hours.

Secondly, what was the weather like with you?
A dark coloured loco, in the sun, can get pretty warm.
Both the Polyswitch, and the BMS (probably) are/have thermal protection.

I have had a decoder fail in an Aristocraft Class 66..
Left idling in the sun, for a couple of hours, and the decoder failed.

You mentioned you parked the loco in the tunnel, so presumably during the idle time it wouldn't get overly warm from the sunshine, right?

That was my thinking behind parking in the tunnel.

My trains tend to get a near hour break during running days whilst we have lunch, not turned off some in full sun with no issues to batteries (NiMh) or other electrics including Deltang, Fosworks, Piko and Crest. However Saturday I did some heavy work with my Electric drill (Lion battery), after job battery very hot so left in a safe cool place after use to cool down before putting back in box. Sounds as if great care is required using Lion (and Lipo) powered trains than we may imagine, particularly in hot sunny weather. Switch off if being left for some time would appear to be good poactice.

He was my initial suspect, but after heavy questioning under the threat of "dreamies" he told me he was innocent.

Decided that I needed to give the Lyn a full test, on to the track a couple of carriages 2 feet and it stopped, no signs of life, so IMHO, no an overload / or over hot poly switch so off to the bench for more examination, it would seem to be the BMS!!

Lyn stripped (STOP IT), and testing carried out, batteries good, but nothing from the "protected" connections, so it would seem the fault is somewhere in the BMS area, good job we have our own specialist, PhilP PhilP who is going to look at it for me :)
