A railway slumbers....add your pics!

Today I wanted to run, but was just too to tired to be bothered - it was over grown and I just wasn't up for it . However as I sat outside I realised that a quiet overgrown railway has an atmosphere of its own and took a load of pics with my mobile. I didn't pose anything it's all as it was. It's interesting that even though I have only two scenic features- a wrecked connie and a building donated by the WGLR, just the rails have a charm. Or I think so.

Even if you're not sure "no trains and buildings" can be pleasing to the eye this is still a record of Cogges as of Summer 2012!

Please add your sleepy/run down/overgrown but no trains pictures if you want!

Re:A railway slumbers....

You think your railway is overgrown. It look fine to me. Mine is so overgroen after all the rain that serious recovery work is required. I'm off on holiday in a weeks time so theres my opportunity.

Some really nice trackwork by the way.

I agree with Andy. A couple of years ago my line reached this state before I decided I really must do some weeding!

My lines constantly being attacked by all manner of plantlife and if I leave it by itself for a week it gets toally overtaken, a good railway should look good even when theres nothing running.

Here's some of mine without a train in sight!

Did run a train today after extensive gardening.... but only battery stuff, I too felt lethargic and enjoyed the sun rather than faffing with live steam!!

But there is something about a station, or plain track even without a train that has an air of slight expectation.....

Could this be called the Beeching effect?
It's getting dark (too dark to see, Mama take these guns from me) so pixies will have to be taken on Tuesday, but trust me, my line is even more overgrown.
The cretins rebuilding the one that overlooks our back yard used a concrete pump to get to the roof of the building they were working on, the concrete splattered to a distance of over 6 metres, and my Beechy railway was right underneath. I now have to scrape concrete from between the points, off the track and pretty well everywhere. Dead miffed.
Steph, can I come and live on your railway? Please? Pretty please?

Excellent stuff Ian and a great idea. Of your original pictures, those of the point fans work really well for me. Numbers 7 & 10 if I'm counting correctly.

Due to the heat we've been experiencing for the last month or so, I have not had the inclination to run any trains. I have done some gardening and installed a misting sprinkler system however. But thats easy work compared to driving trains. I have to keep telling my grandson that Popi is just not up to playing trains. In the end I get enjoyment just sitting in the evening, looking at my garden railway without any trains.

Nice idea just to picture some quiet tracks. Just thought I'd pop a few in of the West Well before the first train of the day.

Just got to get the 9.00 varnish ready to go.

Any excuse for a picture is good for me!!

As twilight falls, a lone passenger awaits the shuttle service from the ferry quay in Ardnacraish to the town terminus:

OK, so the quayside isn't finished, the the shuttle (railcar?) is still well down the to-do list, but hey! a little imagination never hurt anyone....

Some lovely atmospheric shots here, just proves you don't always need the trains! I love just looking at my line as it curves through the flower beds, seems to convey the railway atmosphere on its own.... plus if you have tracks that curve out of sight theres that "whats round the next corner" feeling too.
