A Furgon Conclusion.....

About a year ago, I produced a thread about producing an Argentine style carrage using parts from a couple of NQ cheap coaches and concluded (about last March time) by saying I would use the remainder of the parts to make a composite/luggage carriage to go with it.

Well I've finally made a start.........

Baggage cars are called a "Furgon" in Spanish, which isn't too removed from the French term "Fourgon", though it actually appears what I am producing is classed as an "F.U.", which appears to stand for "Furgon Unica" apparently, as it has a passenger section as well.

Anyway, I'm not going into great details about the construction methods - look at last years thread for that - but I have built a new Baggage section for the car from 2mm thick styrene sheet as shown in the photos below. The end doors from the two carriages have been reused as the baggage compartment side doors, so very little has gone to waste from the original 2 NQ coaches - basically only the original roofs and the end platforms!

Will post a few more pictures as and when work progresses.

Time to resuscitate a dead thread...........

I hadn't realised it was 6 months since anything was done on this conversion job, but I had more or less given up on the garden layout this year due to the abysmal weather we have been having. I think I've managed 2 days of running since Christmas!
The N & OO layouts indoors, in the dry, have taken preference so far.

However, I've now started work on the coach again amongst various other "G" projects that are ongoing, including my first battery loco for the line.

The two body sections have now been painted and fitted to the lengthened chassis once the entrance steps had been constructed on the chassis. The corridor connections await fitting and I will then make the entrance doors for the centre vestibule area.

Oooh I'd forgotten about these excellent conversions - I look forward to reading more :)
Do you have a locomotive for them?

Yes, this one, from a thread even longer ago (2 years or so, which was most probably before you joined on here!) - A Piko 218 sort of adapted to look like one of the Linea Belgrano Sur (ex FEVE) Henschels

A couple more photos showing the current state of play.......

The corridor connections, side valancing and entrance doors have now been added.

I made the doors different on this example, with a single section door with a round window rather than the two-part doors with rectangular windows on the other one.

The roof is currently being constructed ready for fitting.

Re:A Furgon Conclusion.....Concluded.

Roof and some finishing details now applied to the coach and it is posed here outside, now it has stopped drizzling here....

The roof is slightly different to that on the other vehicle in that I didn't score the plastic sheet used before curving it to shape. I used a can of white primer spay paint on the roof and was then going to spray it gloss white. However, the primer actually came out as a rather nice satin white covering (presumably the can hadn't been shaken enough..) so I didn't bother with another coat!

Assuming the garden has dried out by tomorrow morning I will hopefully be able to run the complete train for the first time - or rather, the complete version at the moment as another couple of vehicles may be joining it in the future - watch this space........

Considering they both started off looking like this.........
0e2df058c9f94b4c8f4688a0f8c980c4.jpg

that cost £25 each at the time and that most of the parts were reused on the two new coaches, I'm rather pleased with the way they came out!
The one remaining untouched coach will be rebuilt into a saloon vehicle at some stage, though I will just rebuild the ends and incorporate corridor connections rather than do a total rebuild. The roof will remain the same, but with new ventilators going on.

Re:A Furgon Conclusion.....Concluded.

Thats a great looking car!
I like the scheme, and interesting details indeed!

Not running, but posed..........

One outstanding job to do before they can be run as a train is to shorten the coupling mounting bars, as they are much too long at the moment. This doesn't show in the photos above as I removed the couplings before taking the pictures!

Not quite like the real thing, but near enough........

Just got to sort out the lettering/numbers on the loco and stock now.
