While i was at it i also removed a kink that was part of the old layout and was now not needed and as it was on an incline to help the engines with longer loads on the final part of the run, fingers crossed it should make running my live steamer a little easier.

This pictures shows the very far track as the one i changed.

I am now happy that i have now come to the end of any track laying or changes and now its just back to ballasting and tweaking to make it run as smooth as i can.

Why is it when ever you get any time off it always rains!

Still i have been out in the garden and got some more work done to soften shed effect.

You are brave building down that low Jason ? but then you are a lot younger than me Nowadays my ideal railway would be at waist height...

Ok last couple for now showing some of the new planting and ballasting as the railway and garden start to take shape again after all the up heaval.

I am going back to play testing and will now try things out with my live steamer just to see how it now performs, look out for a new video coming very soon on my youtube channel.

I am hoping my urge to change the railway again will cut in before by back gives in and a future railway maybe of a higher height.

Well work has continued with the new re laid station area now wired up and points now working off Massoth wireless handset, getting lazy in my old age, and another 4 bags of gravel have been spread about covering alot of the line and surrounding areas.

There will of course be some pictures to show this once i stop playing long enough.

I have also taken this oppotunity to service all my engines.

I have stripped down all the motor blocks cleaned the wheels and pickups and then regreased all motor blocks and final drives.

Also i have been repairing any damaged couplings and started to re attach those bits that seems to get caught by the plants in garden and ping off to bring back the engines to their original condition.

This along with the fact i have completely cleaned not only the tops of the rails but the inner edges of the track now all the major works have been completed the railway and engines are running as smooth as they did when they came out of the box, which has added a great deal to the enjoyment of the railway i can tell you.

Now all thats left is to clean stock and check their coupling condtition and its a summer long of playing.

Please keep an eye out for some new pictures over the next few days.

Well the wet weather has really settled in this area and just about all outside railway work has come to a complete stop.

I have been sorting out a lovely new lock and handle for shed door to help with added security and i can now close the door from both inside and out, this along with a light and power socket its become a home from home.

The one thing i did notice while working on new DCC decoder install, check out topic in digital section for more on this, was that my small work area was to narrow being only the same width as shelves at 20cm's. Now due to shed only being 4ft wide i did not want a wide permant bench as it would get in the way, so a look in the garage i found an off cut from main shelf and some old rabbit cage hinges and a plan formed.

I cut new piece of wood to same size as original work area and then added hinges so that when not needed the new flap will lay flat and allow me to still use work area as before but if extra room needed i just fold it out and i have double the room nice and simple and effective. The wood battens at each end butt up against wood frame to stop hinges going to far and to add some support to extra shelf.

Fingers crossed i can get back into the garden while i am off this weekend and take some well over dur pics of new railway.

You can really invest in some "cave" time now Jason. I built a fold a way bench in my shed, I find the flexibility that it give you very useful

Well at last i got the chance to get out there and take some new pictures of the new railway with most of the ballasting and planting now sorted.

Here are the first five of ten showing just how things look as of April 2010.

Next post will cover the other angles of railway and garden.

Well you all have Keith to blame for this topic update after letting the cat out of the bag and saying he is not bored yet!

I was looking again at the plans Peter kindly emailed me for a station building and just watching trains go by when an idea hit me.

If i moved a couple of conifers, please don't tell the other half as she has not noticed yet ok, i could get another passing loop in. This would allow even more trains to be run at once and give me the chance to pull engines in and out for sidings to add a little bit of operational interest.

So into the garage i went and got my track box out.

I had just enough bits of track and working points to make the changes and see if it would work.

Well it did and here are the pics to prove it.

The only problem is now i have not left myself enough room for a proper station building, but i will look again at peters plans and use the front plan to help build a very low relief building up against fence.

Also i have now filmed a little bit of the new railway in action and i will put the clips together within the next couple of days.

I don't think any one could get bored looking at pic's of your briliant layout

As for the new Station area, how about a two story station frontage against the fence with a roof area over the new siding, to keep the passengers/freight dry while they/it wait/s :thinking:
I've seen a pic's of one some where, that looked really neat, but also nice and simple too build.
If i can find the pic's again will post it, or may be some one else was clever enough to keep acouple of pic's

Jason i do love your railway
what about building your station and platform as planed but so that when not in use or for limited operations it sits on top of the track along the fence but when you want to really play / sorry test you can swing it around and sit it on the path facing the fence

Well i have had another small idea out in the garden and we both decided to remove a bit more of the patio area as its only really the two of us who use it now and make room for a bit more garden and as luck would have it a small goods siding.

I have yet to wire up the point to the Massoth point decoder box but apart from that the siding is already in use and planting has already started.

That i think is about that as far as any more improvments go but i will always update this topic if something ever does happen.
