Scary. Luckily they knew they were being filmed, and were wearing the correct gear!
I think the but that concerns you could be the exhaust and the other side the live steam feed? I would have thought a screw in pipe should have been present but as you do not realky say much if what has occured a but tricky to completely advise you.
Ah just remembered I have a Wilesco Stationary engine, you are missing the Steam Oil part that screws into the thread. This has a small amount of Steam Oil to lubricate the cylinder whilst running, ensure you use proper stuff!
