R/H part is a programming head used for programming CV's on MTS models. The item on the left is a controller which plugs into an MTS central station to control trains or accepts the programming head for CV setting. I'm not a massive expert but if they are able to work in 'P' parallel mode, I'd be willing to part some pennies for them :)

I don't think it really matters if the programmer is parallel or not, but more importantly, you can't use the programming module with that handset. You need the other one, with arrow buttons instead of the knob.

Tis a valid point, can only program from the higher spec'ed handset. Its the controller I'd be interested in, but needs to be a 'P' version. Hopefully an MTS expert can confirm what it is from your piccies.

You can't tell from the pictures. The only way to tell is to look for a "P" sticker on either the battery cover of the loco controller or its hardwired connector to the central station. No sticker = it's a serial device.

If its Parallel, it will either have a 'p' suffix on the part no i.e. 55016p or it will have a black sticker with a white P stuck to the back as Peter says.

It is possible to get Serial upgraded to Parallel by Massoth but I don't know how quick they are at doing the work.

I thought (possibly in a previous thread) it had been mentioned that Massoth were no longer offering P upgrades?

Or was that only in reference to the electronics in loco's??

Phil, you are correct.

On 15th July Massoth announced that Parallel updates for MTS2 components will be discontinued "by the end of the year".
