My LGB 'Casey' (PN LGB 92377) had a wee accident, resulting in one of the front wheels running eccentric. I took it apart, and with a gentle flex got it back to reasonably good and its now fine again on the track. But the fact I could do that suggests its the wheel where it attaches to the metal axle has been weakened, and I'd like to replace that whole front wheel/axle assembly.

Looking at the LGB website spare parts listing it would appear I need part number E178644.

My question is... does anyone know where I might get this in the UK. I had a quick look around and didn't see anything, but I know there are guys on here who use various suppliers and might be able to give me a few pointers. I don't have a problem ordering direct from LGB if I have to, but would rather use those small businesses who support this hobby if p[ossible.

Thanks.

The LGB agent is either Chalk Garden Rail, or Kent Garden Rail (both in Kent) and both are helpful.

You could try Glendale (although they are semi-retirees) or Garden Railway Specialists.

Finally, you could ask 'The Sparesman', Tony le Grys....

On the other hand, you could wait until ebay Mike has made his purchase - who knows what wheels are in that lot :devil::devil:

I might have something 'in the garage', but it's probably hidden with the box containing the whistle you're after Rhino. When I get done with SWMBOs 'suggested tasks' I'll have another expedition if there's time.

Thanks for the replies, have emailed Gizzy's suggestions (other than the sparesman cos I have no idea how to contact him), and will see how it goes from here.

One bit of info I've not seen on this thread.
All the pre dcc toy train porters and otto types shared the majority of the drive parts. (And chassis.)
However there were two types of drive cog / wom used. One with course teeth and one with fine. Let me know which type you require. (A photo would help.)
I've got quite a collection of good used spares for both of these, so I'll take a look for you.

Hi again, Heres a photo of the front axle assembly, and just for reference a photo of the loco itself. I don't really know if its course or fine teeth, since I have nothing to reference it against but hopefully this might mean something to you.
Cheers, Alan

With egg on my face, I am back to this thread. I finally got around to fitting the wheels I bought in March, and found that the drive cog I bought was in fact the 'course' type, and what I need is the 'fine' type. I spoke with Chalk Farm and they tell me the fine cog is no longer available to order.

So, here I go again, and ask if anyone here might have any of these they could sell me. I now need both front and back wheelsets.

A secondary question, if I can't get the fine teeth cog, does this mean that if I need to go down the road of replacing the motor with one compatible with the large cog, as with the motor fitted the gears don't seem to mesh. it sits kinda proud, and I can't get the bottom case panel on without fouling the cog.

There is a lug on the end of the motor-housing which fits in a slot in the motor-block moulding.. Have yo u got this lined-up correctly?

Can you post pictures of the cog you want, and the incorrect one? - Also any LGB/Marklin part numbers you have..

Do you happen to have a diameter (over the teeth) and tooth count for the cogwheel? Alternatively, the diameter, length and tooth count of your worm's thread? I probably don't have an exact match for the maker's part but most gears are based on only a few standards and a small number of parameters so from that info, I may be able to find something in my "big box of gears I probably won't use but could never bear to bin" that will work.

Thanks for that quick response PhilP. I'm at work now, but tonight I will put together some photos, and the part number info that I have.

I am fairly sure the motor is sitting as it should, it feels right, and the fine teeth wheelset fit nicely into place. The course teeth set are, I think, sitting on the motor worm and not meshing. So they sit high.

Ok, here are some photos and what little info I have.

First the photos

IMGP3774.JPGIMGP3776.JPGIMGP3779.JPGIMGP3781.JPG

Stating the obvious, the white (wrecked) cog is the fine tooth, the black cog is the coarse tooth.

The fine cog has 28 teeth, the coarse cog has 20 teeth. Both are 16mm diameter and 5mm width.

The worm has 5 teeth and the length of the worm gear itself (ie not the shaft)is 10mm.

From the picture of the base I think you can see the motor itself is housed ok, in as much as worm shafts are located correctly at both ends.

The loco is LGB Casey PN 92377.
The front wheelset for this model on their parts page is PN E178644. However there is no mention of there being two different versions of the cog.

Hope these pics and details help. Just in case their is any confusion, I'll say again its the white fine tooth wheelset I am trying to source.

One last question:
Are the motion fixings a self-tapping thread, or a machine thread?

Aha, you have me here, I'm not sure what is meant by motion fixings. Can I have that again in 'this guy is pure stupid' language :)

The screws holding the motion/rods onto the spigots sticking out of the wheels. - A 'coarse' self-tapping thread, or a fine machine-screw (bolt) type thread?
