What happened at your workbench today?

There are ways of getting additional weight in the body, but it involves lead shot and resin glue - well worth it though.
Yes, having experience of Bachmann's Fourney my thoughts were that this is another "lightfooted" loco. But it is only intended for "light" duties, like short flat cars, empty disconnects and mining tubs. I do have a roll of lead flashing bought to weigh down my 8 axle driven (4 motor) Ply/MDF construction Vale of Ffestiniog loco (built up 3kg). Still quite a lot left over ;) I could either form it to fit inside the mogul's boiler barrel or cut into strips and glue. Need to see how it is moulded inside. I will probably be able to remove the PCB that's in there, but would like to keep the smoke generator (assuming it is working). I could sub' a Seuthe #6 unit though (£'s !). Then the switchgear in the boiler end cap will be redundant, as no need for polarity switching too. Thanks for the thought Rhino, I'll probably do it. Max

Wondering what size of tank would work? Have you looked at a Newquid one? Could give you sizes if that helps, also I have an LGB Toytrain ine un service that I could measure for you.
Likewise I have a Revell 1:24 Opel Blitz tanker somewhere in the shed, though I suspect it too might be a bit too small - guessing the tank is about 130mm long.

Thanks, the tank of the bedford is 150mm long by 50mm tall and 65mm wide, really looking at something in the region of 210 x 75 x 90mm and as all 3 are different, it dose give some "wiggle" room!

Well just measured an LGB 94140 being but one example short wheelbase Toytrain Tank Wagon and it comes out a bit short at 190mm but the other 2 measurements as near as you can get once you remove the chassis. There is another on ebay at £26.70 just now not shown that ref though. I wonder if anyone in the forum has just the tank body from one of these for you, I had one up to a couple if years back but married it to a bogie chassis!

Take one bog roll tube, and squash it a little bit :emo::emo:

I made a whale-back tender from scratch ................ a long time ago

Made a replacement NiMH battery for my 3 truck Shay after the commercial Li-ion pack failed to charge.
6 AA Panasonic Eneloop Pro cells in each row, total cells 12 per pack giving a voltage of 14.4V
The packs will be wired in parallel to give double capacity of 4900mAHr.
All fit into the water tank of the Shay.
The trays are 3D printed from a model on the net then remixed using Tinkercad to get the size and shape I needed.
I can do this with any size pack I require.

Two packs as they will be mounted they will be wired in parallel ie +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve to give the double capacity. In this picture

When bolted together it will look like this with a wire across the 2 terminals (marked with red wire) they will be trimmed to fit.

I will wire it so it can be charged in situ, this is something I would not do with Li-ion being risk averse, even I know there would more than likely be no danger.

Some years ago, my chronic snoring resulted in my being banished to another room, where I had an occasional electrickery workspace. I've just picked up some silly cheap shelving from a village secondhand page and now, like most things garden railway, the bench function seems to have taken over completely :nerd:

Cue the Ride of the Valkyries as viaEstrecha's and PhilP's noggins (and possibly Fezwig's) meet cast iron pans. Strangely, the female officers investigating will see no evidence of foul play.
With SWMBO laid up after a knee replacement I came up with a cunning plan (inspired by Baldrick), I move the jobs on my workbench down in the shed up onto the dining room table.
Sold it as I can be close at hand if you need anything darling.
Strangely it worked which now has me waiting for the; " well I let you use the dining room table while I was laid up but don't think ......... " already keep getting reminded that when she got rid of her card making stuff I immediately took over "her room" to put my 3D printers in.

So today I did the job with the slightly larger, small project box that couldn't be achieved with the smaller, small project box wot I ordered in haste.

Three cables - as in two in, one out, is never going to be spiffingly tidy, especially as I had no desire to disconnect the joints :shake::shake:

So I cunningly drilled some small holes, and cut slots to the edge, such that when the lid is clamped down, the lip just pinches the cables in place ;);)

Well, it's tidy, and all the connections are nicely concealed
