What happened at your workbench today?

OK....
One for the camera nerds:
I am trying to get a photo of some railway lamps, which have LEDs in. Warm-white and Red. But the Smartie-Phone is picking up too much light and burning out. - There may be a problem that the sensor picks up infra-red, as well?
This is the result:

Lamp to the right is illuminated red..
The only tweak I can find on the phone, is to go down to ISO 50. I did try altering the white balance, but that affected the background, not the lamps:

Better, but still burning out the image a little.

Any ideas?

A (extra) resistor in series to dim the LEDs? Might need to be different values for each. I have two-color LEDs, red/warmwhite for the headlamps in my Eggliner. AI suggested an extra resistor in line with the red lead to dim it to more of a taillight brightness rather than a headlight brightness. Worked a treat.

Thanks..
It is not the brightness of the lamps which is the problem, it is trying to get a representative photo of what I am seeing..
I see a Warm-white and Red lamp-lenses, not the burnt out images posted.

Made some good progress on these catenary masts this week.

Next job will be soft soldering the insulators and short wires on, that will hold the catenary, support, earth and feed wires.
Then it will working out how to best (and cheaply) model the large gantries the RhB have at stations.

Nice to see the bench a bit cluttered up. It's a bit like when I was working, when it was claimed that a tidy desk was the sign of a sick mind :giggle::giggle::giggle:

I can assure you that my mind was extremely healthy :D:D

Try a different camera? Either the newest smartphone you can access or a DSLR? They might get different results

After finding my Mtroniks Viper Loco controllers I dragged out a loco that had been languishing in a box for 7 years and I added new batteries and the motor controller.
I now have a small shunter that I will use in a scene on the layout.
I would love sound but there is just no room for it unless I can find one on a single chip with a board the size of a postage stamp.
Some pictures.

Meet "Vic"; named because it reminds me of Victorian era locos
It started as an LGB something and had been bashed to hell and back before it fell into my lap and I resurrected it.
The knuckle couplers are 3D printed LGB ones that have since been painted black, I am changing my whole fleet of wagons & locos over to them for consistency

I wonder if the latest smaller version of the My Loco Sound equivalent by Phil of this forum may be squeezed in somewhere perhaps in an extended coal bunker?

A little side project that's been awaiting dry weather to paint has been sprayed this week and whilst I ponder on goods shed door hinges/fixing, had a bit more work done.

The cab is not fixed yet, as the interior needs fitting out and as happens, with all the bits I hadn't painted yet

A bit more work on the Bedford, made a new flatbed, Why I hear no one ask? Well because I had a cunning plan.............. which was actually rubbish!! Bought the tanker version so I could mount the tank on an M wagon chassis, however, it's way to small, so now I have a spare tank! Fortunately there's not much work in making the flatbed just a piece of 3mm foamboard and some supports, the tanker kit even comes with some extra parts for the flatbed, ends and sides, tie-off hooks etc, so all in all not to bad as mistakes go!

Wondering what size of tank would work? Have you looked at a Newquid one? Could give you sizes if that helps, also I have an LGB Toytrain ine un service that I could measure for you.

I'm guessing a flatbed will be a much more useful and adaptable vehicle, to have around the railway, than a tanker.

Oh dear, this winked at me at the Warwick show yesterday. I have been wavering for 15 years now. A very clean example of Bachmann's diminuative industrial Baldwin 2-6-0 (it's 1:20.3, really !). So, another for a battery/rc/sound conversion job (replacing the stock rasping "chuff").

Things to do - Replace that horrible front coupler, I have a few Kadee knuckle coupler/pocket bits knocking around. Rear coupler switch to link and pin, done. Contact G Scale Graphics in US for standard "West Well Lumber Co." vinyl lettering and numerals. A little bit of minor detailing too, bell & whistle ropes, greedy bars on tender(?), etc'. Last but not least call to RC Trains for Micron card, suitably wired, new micro MLS card, battery pack and switchgear/fuse/loom. Had a look inside, I think I can work it out. Seems like one of the WWL Co's engineers can't wait to get going. Completes my roster of Bachmann's Fn3 locos. Yippee ! Max

A look inside the tender. Not quite spaghetti junction.
