Was out shopping at Exeter Sainsburys today, they are having a store revamp, over the security fence I saw some gabions,
looks as though they may be on the end of an old railway embankment
But dont quote me.
what did take my eye was that they seem to have been filled very meticulously, probably by hand, puts my 'random' stone filling to shame
After making so many individual ones I got a bit tired, so cut corners by making this section in one piece,
but still with dividers to save bulging in wrong places, & separate lids
It does look neater, but not as perhaps it would look in a Quarry
Obviously the "Stray Dray" was not lost
just enroute to the basin
I am informed that her name is Queenie, & that she will used on wagon movements on the quay as & when required
The Horse Master giving verbal commands while seeing last wagon JUST clears points
don this is a great pictorial-so much fun to see-i too thought the gabions looked dead true to scale-thanks for taking the time to tell the story in pcis as you do
Well after the passing of almost 12 months since I posted on this thread, I have at last got the water to circulate.
I bought a small pump, a Blagdon minipond 900
and placed it in the canal tunnel so as to be as far from the weir as possible to reduce pickup of debris in filter
the brick is there to hold the pipe down so it dont float
The wire cable & the water pipe ( 34/32mm waste pipe) go through the dock wall above the liner, & just below track level
Think I need to take out a bit of the cement at the opening there so that the bend can go under further & the pipe wont then foul vessels docking alongside
it would probably look better if I added a cosmetic pipe flange as well
the pipe then runs under the dock tracks to the back cliff, where the waste pipe changes to 40mm flex pond pipe, was going to use waste pipe through the cliffs but just could not get enough leverage with the tree trunk in the way to connect together,
so solution wrap silver Duct tape around a short section of waste pipe till the diameter comes up to 38.3mm & its a good leak proof fit
Probably pay to also use hoseclips on the joint before winter comes, if freezing occurs more pressure could blow joint off
The pipe comes out the other side through a piece of rainwater 3inch down pipe inserted as an after-thought, entailing masonory drills, hammer & chisels, sweat etc. were its reconnected to the waste water pipe again, which is a lot cheaper than the flex pipe
which is not yet in its final alignment, needs tidying up back along the top of the ledge & possibly burrying in the soil
the watse pipe then discharges into another piece of down spout that was built in when the planter was originally constucted
& passes through the cliffs to discharge into the top water behind the viaduct
