Sunday, in amongst a rather wet patch of Autumn weather a few hardy members of the Wellington Garden Railway Group got together for our monthly running afternoon, hosted this month by Gavin Sowry's Taita Gorge Railway.
That's Gav in the check shirt, standing alongside Doug who's doing some videoing is Gav's Granddaughter who helped make us welcome with a fine sign showing the way to the railway.

This is sort of what Doug was videoing!

Before we get into some "detail" shots here is a sort of general view looking back towards the train shed which was at my back in the first photo.

Coming out of the train shed is Gav's Porter.

While Doug is still filming and Brian is wondering where his train is, we get an unobstructed view of the east end of the yard....

Found your train Brian, oh and Gav's rail truck, come "goose" which is parked in the Goose Road.
IMG_1340.JPG

Sweeping around the S bend into Taita Gorge station Brian's loco is hauling a train load, a full train load, of Gav's beer cars. Gav tells us it's his SWMBO's train :-X

Close up of a few beer cars passing the local Four Square store (local general store).

Brian's train, as it merges from the leafy tunnel and crosses the junction it will then be on the original part of the Taita Gorge Railway. Oh how the railway has grown :D
IMG_1343.JPG

This is the new parts, and in particular the main line through and sidings at Taita Gorge are the newest.

Action through Taita Gorge station.

Some nice views through the scale planting.

We ran both Gav's silver galloping goose and Phil's red one at the same time and found not all geese are equal, Phil's gallops faster
IMG_1355.JPG

So there you have it, another fun WGRG running day as seen through my lens. ;)
IMG_1357.JPG

It was a good afternoon. Thanks for having us and thanks to your good ladies (wife and daughter) for the catering. We will be back :)

:) As Sir commands.

First up, a birds eye view from Makayla Sowry, age 'nearly' 8

... and one of some of the assembled throng, that's Mrs S and Mrs C chatting, and JR doing his 'I'm not much taller standing up' impression.

Dave A, in a former life, was a railways signal technician. So, it's no surprise that he should bring along a level crossing warning device that he knocked up.

Of course, the whole point of the exercise was shooting Galloping Geese... we bagged two.

See, the sun did shine. :)

Looking back at the photos (particularly JR's excellent work), there are distinct advantages in photographing on cloudy days. Those last two shots from JR were actually taken in the rain, which gives an added atmosphere, and extra richness in the colour of the greenry.

:-\ Arrived home this afternoon, to find a DVD of Sunday's running in the mail. Thanks to our group member Doug I (who can be seen on this thread, doing his thing). I'm used to watching rather second rate quality stuff done off a still camera using movie function, but Doug's production is first rate, excellent definition, and colour.... all on the large screen. DVD also had some of our other running days on it. Good stuff.
