WANTED: Cam-axle for Aristo Rogers tender

After the axle with magnet(s) for the Aristocraft Rogers tender.

I think the bogie is intact, and it was just the axle that has been 'robbed' for another loco??

..or the axle broke, as many Aristo axles do over the years :wasntme::wasntme::wasntme:

The magnets should be on the bogie - the cam is just a rubber, egg-shaped doughnut - not sure if they're magnets or contacts :think::think::think: either way, it's an 'orrible device :mask:

So, if you could find a thickish round neoprene band, stick a lump of something under at one point and you have the cam :nod::nod::nod:
 
Just had a look in the shed. The ring seems to be a cam (as I have always presumed) - although the axle has the usual Aristo age-related "coming apart at the seams" syndrome so I just gently aligned the the two portions and turned it.

Right, so wile I was wondering how to mount the wheel of choice on the slightly undersized Tamiya axle .........................:think::think::think::think::think:

I took a couple of photos which have come out rather blurry but, if you squint through yer dark glasses, you may be able to make out ....

That the neoprene rubber on the axle is indeed an egg shaped cam which .................

pushes up the magnet, which is mounted on an idler shaft, and which touches (or comes close enough to) the tiny little haul switch which you may be able to make out :nerd::nerd:

Sorry for the blur - even in portrait mode on the camera, I seem to have got a bit too close.

If they're not good enough, I'll take the real camera outside.

I'll see what I can do - you're obviously not too familiar with my photography, then Greg :devil::devil:

IMHO I wouldn't want to spend too much money getting the Aristo sound to work - it sounds more like Darth Vader running a marathon :lipssealed::lipssealed:

T'is part of a 'job'lot' someone bought, and wants 'em working to sell-on..

Funnily enough, not many people are interested in a 1 1/2 bogie tender.. :think::giggle:

I *MUST* get a Transmitter finished this evening..
IF I have a little time after, I will attempt to photo the offending tender bogie. - That is the bogie on the tender.. Not a bogie that is tender, because it is broken. :):giggle::giggle:

As long as I can get an axle, I reckon I could fit magnet(s), and tweak the hall-effect sensor to work??
 
Right - you need a round magnet on an idler axle to sit in that little groove on the bogie - the neoprene cam on the axle causes the magnet to ride up and down, thus bringing it up to the sensor once per revolution.

As I mentioned before, there's no real point spending money on the Aristo sound, it's not really worth the effort.

And I think the bogie is the wrong way round, Mick's photo shows the same as mine, with the chuff axle being the trailing axle on the lead bogie.

So, are the sensor wires connected?

But chances of getting both, are probably nil??
An axle to fit/match is a better probability.

Very probably (from having heard early Aristocraft diesel sounds).. But it is what I have been asked to do..

Yes they are.. - He say's, having been and checked..
Also, would say mine are the right way round.. - The wires 'naturally' fall to the slot in the floor between the bogies..

Although it's a universal tender, there's probably been one or two iterations of the same model. Mine's in a black box, which will denote its age. Both Mick's and mine are 'Christmas' re-paints.

I think the Aristo stuff went:

  1. REA
  2. Black box
  3. Yellow box

The mechanicals are most likely the same - they just messed around with the wiring route - the sound may be better though - it can't be worse :devil::devil::devil:
