Using LGB 55015/16 Remotes with Massoth

I've been informed that I can use my Universal/Loco Remotes with my recently acquired Massoth 1200Z, if I use the Tx/Rx LGB 55050/55055 wireless modules.

Can anyone confirm this? Am I still limited to addresses 1-22 on my locos? Does the MTS handset protocol restrict my use of addresses from 23 onwards?

I ask this, as I was planning to re-address all my locos, using the last 2 or 3 numbers on the cab sides. E.g. I have a pair of Tm 2/2 tractors with the numbers 25 and 92, which would be out of the range of the MTS addresses.

I may have to re-think my strategy.... :mm:

While LGB Wireless do work with Massoth they can be a bit on the ‘flaky’ side. Sometimes missing commands and others not talking at all. But mostly they do seam to communicate well enough. Can’t remember trying to reprogram with one though.

You will be restricted to the 1-22 range though. It is worthwhile thinking of a Renumber of Locomotives with some of the sticky paper that I use, this can be removed easily without any damage should you wish to sell a Loco later. Happy to help you with this if you need any done.

Save up some pennies and get a Naviagator Gizzy. You are missing so much of what the 1200Z can do with out one.
Just so you know - the LGB remote receiver is different to the Massoth/Navigator receiver.

I have a Navigator Alan, and I can use it to control 2 locos if required, as well as changing points. But I find it a little bit overcomplicated compared to a LGB Remote.

I've started setting up my 1200Z yesterday afternoon. I made a patch lead at work, so that I can plug in my existing cabling from the LGB MTS to the Massoth. My layout plugged in to the MTS via a couple of 4mm 'banana' plugs, and I've made up a cable that attaches the Massoth output to a small box with a couple of 4mm sockets.

I'll get the Massoth kit running first, before I start adding the LGB 55050 receiver and Remotes....

If you have LGB "P" kit there is a pretty good market for it so you could sell possibly via here or Glendale to fund another Navi or two? that is what I did via Glendale.

Once you grasp the changing Menu System the Navi becomes quite user friendly, though I do a copy keep the latest Manual in my Railway Shed! Just for those things that the single cell cannot keep hold of you understand.

Yes I have all P kit Jon with MTS 2. I have 2 Loco Remotes and a Universal Remote, each having a Tx plug-in module, as well as the 3 cable modules. I was thinking of keeping it all to use with my portable layout Hardyard, but in time, I may sell it on....

You will need a Transducer to convert the MTS bus signals to the Dimax bus signals.

These are no longer made. I have one but it is being held by a European customer - will let you know asap. FYI it would be £60+£4.95pp

Big reminder there of the Rushbahn setup Muns, he did have a box that made the LGB Handsets workish. If memory serves me right in the same size blue box as the reverce loop module?

Is the Massoth Bus cable the same as the LGB.

I just picked up a 55060 and connected Stellwerk-Easy to it. Works great.

I am using the MTS III and connected the 55060 to the LGB Bus.

Stellwerks has the ability to control Dimax. I tried connecting the 55060 to the Dimax port on the MTS III but got a cable error.

My thinking is that I should be able to send Dimax commands to the MTS III Dimax port.

Any insight to the correct cabling would be dandy!

I.e. is the Dimax bus cable straight through or crossed?

I mentioned in an earlier post that on the Ruschbahn which was LGB pre P we had a different piece of Massoth kit to get the LGB parts to work, by the looks of things that may have been what sorted out any wiring issues between the two systems. I think it may have been Massoth part 8138001 in their Bus Parts.

I think you mean 8138501 ??

The 8138001 just gives additional DIMAX bus connections..

The cables are identical. The protocols are not.

You should not connect an LGB Bus component to a Dimax port and vis versa.

The 55060 PC interface should be connected to a LGB Bus port on the MTS3 unit.

You will need to tell yur Stellwerk software that you are using LGB MTS and not Massoth Dimax.

You refer to the "Transducer" which allows LGB MTS components talk to a Massoth Dimax system. Discontinued part no 8138501.

Yes could be, this was a long time back and since Andy died my memory of what we used has faded somewhat except that we did use something to get LGB Handsets to talk to his Massoth Base Station indeed probably the part that you refer to now not available as a new item.
