So, except for some really weird motors, normally you want the PWM frquency as high (highest frequency) as possible.
Normally this is around 16kHZ as Phil stated.... Old open frame motors sometimes require lower frequencies.
USA Trains motors are well known, I have quite a few, and have always used the highest PWM frequency, which normally reduces motor heating and other issues.
Also, the lower frequencies will be in the audio spectrum, so you will hear more noise from the motor itself.
