Boxing Day - as in 26 December - was grey, and then started to drizzle - you can see rain spots on the camera.

But I had to test my new AMS wagons :bigsmile:

Boxing Day Bank Holiday (today) and the sun was shining, with the frost just lifting, and there was time to enjoy things

There are 6 million reasons why a Shay is an ideal first steamer:

1 - It does not need driving as there are only two speeds; flat out (crawling) and stop
2 - controls are easy - forward or reverse is a fairly easy choice; gas tap one quarter turn; steam valve about three quarters with this weight of train - the caboose is brass and the Shay is being asked to work quite hard on 8 ft diameter curves and slight grades
3 - apart from axle boxes, you can lubricate everything while raising steam
4 - it deposits all its greasy gunge outside of the rails

Part of the pleasure of not having to drive them, is that you can sit and watch the pistons and all the gearing...............for hours on end :bigsmile:

Well, about a quarter of an hour at a time actually, until the gas runs out :rolf:

The tanker's a smasher. I prefer it to the two Bachmann ones, as it just shouts narrow gauge at you, being simply a tank lashed to a flat wagon :thumbup:
