Hi Nico,

Looking good, are you adding any diagonal braces to them?

To make them even more impressive you can, when assembled, add some wind braces between the trestle bents (and the stringers) as well

Don't forget to give them a really good dunk in preservative when finished.

How wide is the base of them please?

Some good, and quite large files of drawings for trestle bents are available from the following weblinks

http://www.cabbagepatchrailway.co.uk/trestle.html

and

http://www.riograndesouthern.com/RGSTechPages/_bdwhite/rgstec1.htm

Hi Nico
Built my trestle several years back now and still looks in good condition . When i fixed the trestles together i used 2mm nuts and bolts so if any part of the trestle needs replacing i simply unbolt the rottern part and bolt on a replacement.

Hi Nico,

No the bottom of the trestle bent - where at the time of the photo you had no horizontal cross pieces. Does that mean that you will be pushing the bents into the ground I wonder?

Some full size ones here had a couple more horizontal pieces, that sat on a concrete base - that could be called a mudcill: as the concrete was visible above the ground kept the bents out of the mud and wet thus preserving them a bit longer.

Found these close up of my trestle :thumbup:Shows the nuts & bolts

First pic i posted was a K-27 :D the two close up pics are a Bachmann Connie which belongs to my dad

Like the bolted idea.

Just pinned and glued mine.......the stringers were made from deckboard.
Used waterproof glue so hopefully it will last.....and used real cedar for the bents :D

Hi Peter, the bottom is 9".I was thinking of pushing the into gravel and lightly cover the gravel with clay.the horizontal might still be an option i will try out one or two and see how it looks,im still of two minds as to whether to paint them or not
