'Orrible little airmen.

No, actually, they look quite good Mel, but I think the Sarge would look better in a No. 1 Jacket, with a belt.
And maybe an Orderley Sgt armband?

Now all you need a flagpole with an RAF ensign flying from it, as well as the OCs pennant....

I may add an Army camp on my railway at some point as the M&GN - in perticullar the section of which is now NNR carried troop trains during the war as there was an Army camp near Weybourne at what is now the Muckleburgh Collection which is the UKs largest privetly owned military Museum

I Like the RAF men Mel They've not not bothered to shine thier shoes though

Theres a brick building at Quorn hall near me that durung the second world war was painted to look like a large stack of hay bails, reminded me of your camoflauged warehouses a bit

Had a nice day out in Cheltenham yesterday. Called in to see Andrew at Garden Railway Centres and purchased some Preiser and Bachmann figures together with an LGB van.

The van was in a right state, covered in blobs of paint, both doors missing together with the top door runners, and it looks like it's been kept outside for years. However, it came at the right price. A bit of weathering and a re-paint of the roof covered up all the paint blobs. New doors and runners were made from plastic card.

Matching the colour of the new doors was difficult, but a weathered finish helps.

This was exactly the colour of van that I had in mind for using at the RAF depot., very close to BR Bauxite.

That's a good repair job you've done to the van Mel and the way it's painted is spot-on as well

Yesterday I finished the re-paint of the Bachmann Porter in War Department livery. Some modifications have been made including new buffer beams and plated cab sides (instead of wood) all from plastic card with rivetts embossed into it.

yb281 Mar 4 2009, 10:27 AM

Still some jobs left to do including a protective coat of varnish and a bit of detailing.

Wartime period shot.

The photographer who took that must have been very brave or foolish, I suspect he risked being shot in those days!
