Still some jobs left to do including a protective coat of varnish and a bit of detailing.

I think that your engine looks just like the real thing!

Thanks Charlotte. Perhaps it might get a run on the LGB sometime

I did - all present and correct.

I'm so sad at times, I even make myself miserable.

If you want to hug ZMan, you'll need some VERY long arms .

Anyhoo, nipped into my local model shop yesterday to get the satin varnish for the Porter and saw a kit to make this.

Well, I couldn't resist. It's the wrong scale (1/35th), but it looks OK in the background. I guess the base would need some AA protection during the war. One of these stopped me playing football once ............. but that's another story .

Oh, it's a Bofors anti-aircraft gun BTW for those that don't know.

Mods on the Porter have been completed now, including a smokebox door dart as suggested by Matt and lamp irons. I've also toned down the buffer beams a bit. They seemed far too RED ..................

yb281 Mar 6 2009, 12:08 PM

............. Also fitted operating cords for the bell and whistle. The satin varnish has turned out a little "blotchy". Might have to re-do that

When we were in Cheltenham the other day I got some plastic angle to give the depot. roofs a bit of relief and to make runners for the doors (still needs painting).

Airborne view. Hopefully not from a baddy, otherwise that Bofors will be after us

QUOTE(yb281 @ Mar 1 2009, 05:21 PM)
Had a nice day out in Cheltenham yesterday. Called in to see Andrew at Garden Railway Centres and purchased some Preiser and Bachmann figures together with an LGB van.

The van was in a right state, covered in blobs of paint, both doors missing together with the top door runners, and it looks like it's been kept outside for years. However, it came at the right price. A bit of weathering and a re-paint of the roof covered up all the paint blobs. New doors and runners were made from plastic card.

Not sure how those ramblers got onto the military base

Better get the Provost round quick

That looks pretty OK really. The relief on the roof is just right - you've obviosly spent some time looking at buildings (probably with smoke coming out of them)

Called in at an RAF base the other day, looked out of the office window at the gun across the road, looked again - Argie, spoils of war

Porter looks ace Mel, for all that, I'm not convinced by the dart. In fact, I'm fairly sure it shouldn't have one- I suggested removing the numberplate but I'm fairly sure I didn't mention the dart... the door is secured (I believe) by the clasps around the edge so it wouldn't need one.

Erm, sorry. I'm being Mr Critical again!

If it's any consolation, the bufferbeam looks absolutely spot on now you've toned it down a tad

Edit: from your own reference shot

And this is why you shouldn't listen to me

the WD porter looks the Bizz
the blotchy varnish isn't obvious on my PC - perhaps adds a bit of unintentional weathering?
