Mel - awesome...
Does the WGLR management expect to host the visitors on it's own trains, or will they be travelling in under their own steam (pardon the pun)?

Maybe they'll fly in on their Royal Flight's Junkers....

Or maybe not.

Yes, "Kaiser Otto" was back at the Wetton Gooey line for his 100km paint check. Naturally, the WGLR's paint shop workers had done a bang up job, so after the most cursory of inspections, the Ruritanian 2012 touring train made a celebratory run over the line. Our roving photographer captured the special train crossing the viaduct.....

The line's proprietor was most keen to show visiting Ruritanian dignatories the new transshipment facility at Gooey. A vast and efficient complex with a wide variety of traffic being handled. There was mutual delight at the presence of a sister loco to Otto which was acting as yard pilot. A very satisfactory day indeed. May the WGLR's sleepers never rot!

A thousand thank you's to the Ruritanian delegation. It was a most enjoyable day.

Due to the afor mentioned security measures, the official WGLR photographer was instructed to keep his distance, although he did scale Gooey Hill to record Kaiser Otto and train passing the outskirts of the town.

A demonstration of the WGLR's Davenport oil burner was requested, here it passes through the narrows with it's short goods train.

No exact reason was given for the interest in this particular loco, although the delegation seemed suitably impressed by the small loco's hauling capabilities. The interpretor did make some mention of "flying up the Pootank", but it was all a bit garbled really.:thinking:

Some verra nice photos there, particularly the Stainz crossing the high street and the overview of the transhipment bit- how good does the weathering on the Pudding tanker look in that shot?!

Lovely photos chaps - looks like a successful visit - and it's excellent to see the Ruritanian travelling delegation at another railway.

(PS Peter, I love that pair of StLB style green and cream coaches!)

Love the photo's Mel

The narrows - superbly photogenic:thumbup:

Yet another beautiful and productive day in the Wetton Valley.

First a job for the domestic authorities which has caused much rejoicing and a small deposit of Brownie points. The washing line has been properly secured utilising the old weather vane and a lump of left over fence post. As you can see, the foreman was satisfied with the job.

Now, back to the railway. The market sidings had disappeared under a Winter carpet of lovely grassy moss (don't ask me where it came from - completely unplanned). Now most normal people on seeing this have responded with much gnashing of teeth and suggestions for effective weed killers, but as many of you know, I am a LOOOOONNNGGG way from being normal and I LOVE the look of the stuff. So, some of the moss was grubbed out and the track re-ballasted, but the grassy moss can be trimmed with scissors and much of it at the side of the tracks has been left in place.

The sidings loss is St. Mark's gain. I had planted creeping Thyme in the graveyard, but it proved to be too verdant and completely swamped the grave stones, so I've grubbed it out and transplanted some of the grassy moss. This is only about a foot away from where it grew naturally, so providing I keep it damp, I hope it will take.

Last job of the day, the goods office has a shiney new feather edge awning.

Looking absolutely stupendous Mel.
I also, am taking moss from one place and trying to transplant it to another..the new to be constructed farm area. Only problem is that it will be in very heavy shade..not sure if the moss will survive there.

Seeing as how the transhipment sidings are now useable and Market Sidings are visible again, I thought it would be rude not to use them, so I spent the day on pick-up goods duty.

3 open wagons and a tanker of TVO are ready to go having been loaded from standard gauge wagons, so the Stainz duty shunter is sent up the ramp to collect them.

In the meantime the loco for the daily goods (No.3) has arrived at Gooey, shunted it's brake van into platform 2 and waits in platform 1 for it's train to be assembled.

Having assembled the train, the shunter returns to it's siding while No.3 backs onto the train and gets ready to go. Just got to wait for the fireman to fit the headlamp.

First stop is Market Sidings where an explosives van and an empty sheep wagon are waiting to be picked up (empty sheep are the ones that don't return your calls). The brake van is propelled into the right hand siding to allow the extra wagons to be coupled.

All this to-ing and frowing calls for nifty work at the ground frame.

Soon we are on our way again and passing through the narrows (especially for Mick).

Next destination is Cockshutt Mortimer where a flat wagon and two War Dept. vans are to be added.

3 open wagons have to be dropped off, so the train is split..............

aaeaa6fd882e4a379a9349f368c7b1df.jpg

............. before we are off again, passing the bothy at the end of the Welsh Highland inspired slate cutting.

7d5102a7997e4dbf82d53db1dc6b87d7.jpg

And finally we arrive at Wetton, the end of the line (you may notice that Wetton looks very much like Cockshutt? There is a reason for this - standardisation).

We should spend another hour or so shunting all those wagons into the right sidings, but in reality what happens now is that I have a brew and a rolly before sending the train off again, dropping everything off in the sidings where they came from.

 Lovely stuff

A shady area sounds ideal to me mate, providing you keep it good and damp.

Not too sure what elf n safety would make of the fact theres a tanker coupled next to the explosives van........:nail::nail::nail:
