Today on the WGLR

I picked up one of Stocker's Pendlebury lineside buildings from Stoneleigh. It went together really well, although it did need a little bit of filler around where the roof joins the top of the walls. It's nicely detailed having been built from old sleepers (you can actually see evidence of the bolt holes for the rail chairs in some of them). I could get the cream to look a little smarter if I gave it another coat, but this hut will be for the crew working on the standard / narrow gauge interchange siding, so I didn't want it look too posh.

The figures were from Jon's Models. They were the one thing I really splashed out on being a bit steep at £8.99 each, but I was very impressed with them, especially the standard of painting. They're a bit on the big side as they're probably aimed at the 16mm guys and are about 1/19th - 1/20th scale, but they'll look OK in isolation.

I'm looking forward to "planting" the hut next to the sidings, but that will have to wait until my back injury gets better.

Managed to get the shunters hut into place today. Might be a few days before I can get it properly planted. It really fits the site nicely and at least the interchange crew can get a brew now.

Another pair of Thomas wagons have had their faces ripped off :nail:, so the standard gauge siding should be more populated soon.

Nice work Mel, love it, The S/G wagon needs some grease on it buffers........:bigsmile:

I stop paying attention for, blimey, ok, a few months and look what happens! Fantastic stuff Mel. And virtually unrecognisable.

I thought about you at Stoneleigh the other day Matt. GRS had a rather nice standard gauge Hunslet saddle tank which would have looked rather nice on my interchange siding - you'd looooove it .

I do like the standard gauge wagons and tram Mel.
I've got a LGB power bogie and trying to decide if I should build a Toby but with black skirts or a small railcar. Or I could build both with drop on bodies which I could swap in the fiddleyard !
Sounds like a cracking idea Paul. I can't understand why IP have stopped making their steam tram??

Love the standard/narrow gauge interchange idea Mel.
I had thoughts of something similar for mine, but in 1/12 scale, standard gauge would mean a wagon at least 8ins wide, & possibly 12 - 14 ins long
cost of the wheels put me off.
But I did vaguely think I might model an abandoned standard gauge siding, out of use, with a derelict wagon sans wheels up on blocks, just to emphasise the narrow gauge feel more

Been another lovely day and the light was really nice this evening, so I took some general shots of the WGLR and it's surrounding area.

Wetton station. Looks like a train may be due.

The Mem's old Citroen has been playing up, so Colonel Bloodknock has dropped it into Station Road Garage. If anyone can fix the Froggy Jalopy, Dai Ball can.

Trevor Evans passes the time of day with Inspector Grimm as he waits for a trainload of passengers to arrive.

Even a passing train isn't a greater draw than a toyshop window for some. The level crossing sign has never been the same since Trevor Evans clipped it with the X90.
