The SHLR Reborn - Finally made a start on the new railway

Coming on Gareth:thumbup:Thats a good long run down your fence you have

Looking good Gareth
how about a clear acxrylic/perspex false tunnel liner to keep leaves, twigs etc from falling onto the line in the "tunnel"?
save on frustration

Excellent stuff Gareth. More please!

Ok so a bit more work done at last weekend. Just to recap in the last update I'd managed to exit from the shrub border.

Now managed to complete that long run from the border along the fence

Cheers Mel, must say I'm getting into this laying on timber lark.

So when I finally join it all back together (only about 18ft to go now), that will be phase 1 complete. Phase 1 Track plan should look something like:-

Then eventually (when I've moved the greenhouse), an additional loop and terminus station should see the the final plan looking something like:-

and with a bit of greenery added

That's a really nice plan Gareth. Just the kind of thing I would have liked in Ruritania if it wasn't for the slight slope!
Can I suggest that the siding at the middle station face the other way so it can become a spur for locos and trains can then terminate at that station more easily?

Are you going to put in the crossover so that trains can run back to the terminus without running round?

As per your previous layout....

I wouldn't personally. I think this is more realistic and running round adds an interesting operation.

Maybe if you don't have the short crossover as I suggested, and marked on your drawing, you could have a line linking to the last station on the curve, to give you a long continuous run from the terminal and back, whilst still letting you have point to point operation....

I really wanted to get Phase 1 of the trackwork down before the year was out so last weekend I enlisted Granddaughter Mya to help me get the last few boards down.

First job, cut me off some joining pieces.

With Mya's help it didn't take long to get the last few boards in place and complete the circuit.

Then after a check around the circuit to stick in a few rail-clamps in place of missing fishplates, we got busy screwing it all down.

and then we tested it :thumbup:

Fantastic work Gareth  can see a few American locos running round there

Great work Gareth. Good to have an able apprentice at hand. My granddaughter is 15....months so have a little time to go!
