Where's James gone??? :rolf::rolf:

I do like that black version of the Heidi. I was never over keen with those little platforms to the side of the front wheels (although I understand they were correct), but they seem to be removed from this version. V V Nice .

Some more pictures I took......first the Stainz and the Harz Kamel....think the Kamel is a handsome brute with an excellent rumble when the sound system fires up:

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

I purchased these two via Mike, who sadly was disposing of a collection for a widow.
Today I cleaned up the little Borsig (Kleine Dickie), eased the skates and fitted new springs to them and doubled the weight of the lead inside. an extra 15 onces went in. She will only do short shunting runs and she still slips - so I dont think I have over done it.
But 5 coaches is pretty good going. She did 6 but slipped a little.
Say thanks to Jenny for me Mike.:)

Then the heavy weight came out to show how it should be done!

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

Then the little Kof got the lead weight treatment.
I unscrewed the factory weight, made a similar sized weight from roofing flashing, drilled through it and screwed both weights back down to the chassis using longer screws (inch and a quarter No.6's)
Pulling in reverse because I need to replace the missing coupling plate at the rear.

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

I looked for one of these at all the Spring trade shows. Plenty of Red Standard gauge ones left but no HSB orange ones. I found this one on German Ebay at a very attractive price.

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

A very nice looking diminutive loco (could imagine something of that stature on the underground!)

The Harz Kamel seems larger when next to the Stainz. I did not know that they were available with six wheel trucks. I believe every photo and video I have seen them starring in, shows them with four wheel trucks.

I thought that the standard gauge version had four wheel trucks but the narrow gauge used six wheel versions to reduce the axle loading to a more acceptable level. I also think that the loco body needed to be mounted higher up to cope with the greater overhang on these longer narrow gauge trucks especially with the tight curves.

Alan, now that you've got the Kof you wanted presume you are a happy bunny:bigsmile::rolf::rolf:

Your basically right Neil. I am not sure about the height to clear the 6 wheel trucks - its just a blinking great standard gauge body perched on some metre gauge trucks.
As for Piko - they produce this 6 axle version as runninig on the HSB metre gauge, an orange standard gauge version on 4 axles and more recently they have releasesd a DR standard gauge version which is a very silmilar paint job to the HSB but is on 4 axles.

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

Yes but no but yes!
Very true Keith. But the Trainline Mallet and Pfiffi and Fiffi are due out this winter. Those LGB Saxon jobbies look rather nice too. Trouble with this hobby -- never satisfied!:rolf:
You cant have too many trains.:rolf:
and the Ko could really benefit with sound.

Re:The Oxney Island Line - from the begining again.

I started this extension last year. Things do tend to evolve slowly on the Oxney Island Line.
Its going in here!
