The MRR in the Attic - Blumentritt's Build Thread

Picture # 12: Slowly progressing. Tomorrow, these tables will be leveled.

What is not shown are all the boxes and other old attic stuff which is cleared to make space for the tables. There is a lot of sorting going on. "Good" stuff is first put aside, to ultimately end up under the tables. Junk is separated, brought down two flights, to end up in the garbage house.

Fitness training and railways - perfect combination!

There's most likely a trade-off between strength and economy - no point blasting rock away for the sake of it.

However, in terms of pure shape, while not a tunnel as such, I refer the honourable gentleman to Brunel's bridge at Maidenhead ;);)
Meanwhile, further down that line, is a tunnel with an OTT amount of clearance!

Where is the tunnel going too ? whats on the other side of the wall ? curious :)
Well, if it's anything like Box Tunnel, it'll be aligned with a window so that the sun shines through the tunnel on his birthday :p:p

I would like to point out that it is much easier to make a tunnel opening smaller than to make it larger once the track is installed. (See Greg's picture.) With a decent tunnel front, the 'hole' can be as large as you like and the tunnel facade can be adjusted based on future rolling stock.

The objective of this thread is to post the construction progress of The MRR in the Attic. Have in mind, that Rome wasn't built in a day. Thus, this is intended as a "long haul" thread.

May I ask which Ikea part number for the tables?

May I ask which Ikea part number for the tables?
694.175.29 and 294.164.52. LAGKAPTEN / ADILS.

My first choice would have been INGO, a pine tree table. But that is sold out, and I didn't want to wait. Who knows how long it takes to re-stock during these times of Flu.

My concern with ADILS is the make up of the table top. I am living here in ant and insects central, in a high-humidity environment. The hope is, that the table tops will survive this hostile environment. But they very well might not.

Anyway, there are some advantages of ADILS as well. Low weight - carrying and assembly are a piece of cake. The legs are height adjustable, which is really nice on our old, uneven attic floor. And the price per square meter is unbeatable. So far, I only ordered for phase 1, but will place another order for phase 2 in due course. Not only do I fear they will run out of stock, but I am quite convinced that for the price, this is absolutely the right choice.

Brief update. All tables for the back room are assembled, but not connected yet. Too many boxes to move around.

Anyway, I just ordered from Ikea the tables for Phase 2. They already ran out of stock of our particular color choice. Luckily, the MRR in the Attic will include a Christmas Village. So I ordered the nine remaining black tables Ikea still had in stock. Plus six white tables for the Christmas Village.

Overall, just the table assembly plus all that moving and clearing of boxes will keep us busy for at least another two week.

Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Short update, no pictures. Moving boxes takes most of the time right now. There are seven tables left to assemble, which will hopefully done by the end of next weekend.

Picture # 20: Seven tables to go! The goal for this weekend is to complete the "benchwork" for the entire 45 sqm play area.
