The EJ&KLR on video...

Hi guys - I filmed this footage back in August with a view to putting together a 'circuit' of the line. This is by no means a polished edit but shows the various angles you've seen in photos - and hopefully shows how the line is built into it's own 'flower bed' between the garden and the patio...

Filmed with an iPhone 4 and edited in iMovie on OS X 10.6.8

What do you think? Worth doing some more? I'd like to get the scenic side a little more progressed before I bother doing a second I think.

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

Trackbed looks really good, nice and smooth running.
Needs another vehicle..a van or indeed a third coach. I think an odd number of vehicles looks much better than even....on short trains. After 7 or 8 vehicles, you stop counting!
When I've shot videos of model trains, sometimes what seems to be the right speed seen by the eye, is too fast on screen. Maybe a touch less throttle?
And once the planting becomes more mature next spring, ground level shots will look excellent ( pretty good now ).

How about a driver's eye view for next time?

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

VERY nice. I like those locos, very tempting even tho they fall after my forced cut-off of 1940 for model prototypes.

Second Malcom's comments, another coach, or even a four axle Austrian flat car with a load of logs in proper Austrian fashion would fit the bill. LGB 43620, or cut down a damaged cheap LGB 4062 and remove the doors as I did...

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

Thanks guys - the length of train is dictated by my loop I'm afraid but I do agree on length. I've seen photos of the 2095 with just two bogie coaches like this although they're a touch later (1990s) and in the red/cream livery. I can run 3 2-axle coaches, or 1 bogie and two 2-axle so I really need an OBB liveried 4 wheeler for the flexibility. I've got two 2-axle projects in mind when I find the right priced donor vehicles, a 1970s era steel bodied brake van (with the guards window lookout) and a matching 4 window coach. My thoughts were I could paint both of these and one of my three bogie coaches at the same time so I didn't need to match the green LGB used on the bogie coaches. I know in real life they were quite patchy and didn't match, but that just looks messy in minature unless everything is weathered - and that is some way off on my long term plans.

Thanks for the more general positive feedback - especially about the setting, landscaping and railbed - I will try and shoot some more footage of my 1950s era steam train and 1960s railcar this weekend - weather permitting.

Cheers!

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

Nicely done James....

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

lovely-and with an iphone!!
no ciritic nor a cinemaphotographer

however i watched it twice
i think if you lengthen the scenes slightly , and show the layout from the ground rather than birdseye-it may help-imho the scene changes were a but rapid and short-longer will help to establish mood and being in the present scene-i think.....i would also consider zooming out (or in) to not only get the detail of the rolling stock but also to continue the scene and then provide the viewer the surroundings and context of the trains enviorns

agree with cogges and others on length-it adds visual interest to the viewer to watch more than you can take in in a glimpse
and agree strongly
slow it down-about 2/3 of what you had-it imho provides the impression of mass and inertia-slower my in itself lengthen the scenes -or change my percoeption of rapid scene segues

particularly like the opening angle of view-ie ground level

thanks and good work

Frank S and the Euro Davenport

Thanks guys. Here is a second video, made with some slightly older footage.

The first shots are of the Frank S conversion and short EJ&KLR mixed train. It shows the station area (and loop) better - the station building is coming on well now and the platform will be put in place in the next few weeks. In the second shot is also shows the only part of the track laying i don't like - a slight kink in the curve, in future videos I'll aim to minimise the visual impact of this in shot. The last shot shows the Lilliput (Bachmann) diesel shunter based on the Davenport on a short permanent way train.

Re:Frank S and the Euro Davenport

James, the video dosen't work.......

Re:Frank S and the Euro Davenport

'this video is private' is the response when hitting 'play'

Re:Frank S and the Euro Davenport

Sorry chaps - try now! I forget they go up as 'private' - of course because it's my video I can see it when I post it on here! Ooops!

Re:Frank S and the Euro Davenport

Niiiiiccee. Like it, like it...........:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Re:Frank S and the Euro Davenport

oooooh much better-really liked it
again a bit slower on the locos as it look realistic (the davenport was perfect) and
as a viewer
i get a bit more time to look at the loco and its details
particularly like the frank s consist-

are your curves R3? they look nice

Re:2095 on the EJ&KLR

Great video James

Steve - the curves are different all over. The flowing sweeping section is R5, however the sharper curves are transitions. They start R3, and have a number of R2 at the apex. A comprimise, but I had an initial space limitation.

Thanks for the feedback guys - really - I'm looking forward to doing something creative with this again soon :)

Hi guys - I filmed this footage a few weeks ago but only got around to editing tonight. It shows the EJ&KLR branch train along with the new station building, and some more interesting shots on the line trying to take some of the feedback on board...

What do you think?

Excellent James! Very nice video thanks.

You have come a very long way since that trip to Pontrilas!
