Hi folks,

I finally got a new little mini tripod thingy for my iphone and started taking some videos of our line. I've been meaning to do this for far too long now but I've always been busy doing something else on the railway! Anyway, here is a short video of our newest addition to the fleet, a Cotton Belt GP40 #7600. The loco has been detailed & weathered as per the prototype and features the full SP style light package (controlled through DCC) along with other additions such as brake hoses, speedometer, snow plow, new bell & horns etc.

Thanks for the kind words! That was the idea with that loco, weathering wise. Our railway is set in around '68 and that loco first arrived new on SP rails in '66, so a light weathering is all it needed.

Tripod for the iPhone? Sounds interesting and a hand thing for videos such as this. Wonder if they are available down here?
 
Hi John, yeah it's just a wee mini tripod that my girlfriend got me as an Xmas present. I think she got it on amazon or eBay so it shouldn't be too hard to find something similar I think. I'll find out what it is exactly and let you know...

This was the kind of thing I'm talking about. It's not too pricey I think (it was a small stocking filler at Xmas!) and it allows you to position your iphone without having to hold it. It's good for me as I often have a really shaky hand when I'm concentrating! Also because it has a large screen on the back, you can really set and adjust the whole scene before you start the loco.
 
Here is another quick video showing the DCC controlled gyra light on the loco's cab. On the prototype the whole light mounting moved inside the enclosure, often in a figure of eight pattern which cast the light out in front of the loco. The NCE decoder has a special gyra light setting to help recreate the feel of this:
