There are indoor guys in the smaller scales who spend years trying to achieve the levels of realism in the pics of this layout.

I know for a fact that Matt got some better photo's than I did on the day (thanks to me not wearing my spec's, I made a, err, "schoolboy error" :impatient: )
 
Lovely photos - what photo filters or post processing are you doing on your images? They have a sort of Hipstamatic look to them :)

Mine?
Because of my astigmatism, I usually have to rotate images to square them up after I've taken photo's, so while I'm in "post production", I usually apply a few touches (I have 6 points on my artistic license :laugh: )
I like to try and portray the line in its three guises - pre, early and post preservation by the amount of "aging" on the photo's and filming, eg pre-preservation should appear sepia / B&W or grainy colour to represent "historical shots up to the early 1950's.
I use a free download called PhotoScape, which, 'cos I'm pretty non-technical (I had to Google "Hipstamatic" in case you were being rude! :bigsmile: ) has some great filters and "one click" effects.

Not too long now and my 90 day probation will be up - I'll be able to post up links and PM then rather than drivel on like this in public :party:

No, no, no, NOT drivel mate!!! I too had wondered how you got the effects on your photos and now I intend to download that free software and have a go at some of mine. PM's are great for certain conversations, but top gen like this should be shared. Guarantee that someone, somewhere will learn something from every such thread .......... even if they don't always actually admit to it. :thumbup::thumbup:

yep it's all code 332, since I started with an LGB starter set and it just grew :rolleyes: (mostly LGB with a few Piko and Aristo curves). - Deep ballasted with a "Rowlands Mix" laid in dry, brushed into place and then watered.
The points are all R1's which are starting to give me a few problems and I'm coming to terms with the fact that I've got to replace 'em (at least on the main running line) at some point. :crying:
 
Your welcome, it's given me some inspiration. Im planning a passing loop with lgb track but was concerned that it wouldn't look as good as peco, you've proved this wrong.

There is a reason why people say avoid r1 points...I'm learning the hard way too. Saying that, r1s are cheap and allow you to get some track down. I'm gonna try and shim mine as they're a pain in the .... On the mainline.
 
Yesterday (29th Feb - once every 4 years event) and today, 1st March, both glorious Spring days - I've been running the W&LLR Mamod, Ogwen.

I dunno why, with the more "sophisticated" loco's in the stud, there's such a unique enjoyment in running this basic toy engine! ;)
 
Although it's my birthday today (wednesday), the weather forecast wasn't anywhere near as good as the sunny tuesday we had, so I thought I'd run something for a visiting friend to celebrate both occassions :)

EDIT; Dagnabbit, I worked that one out wrong! I figured my 90 day quarantine was up, but since I still can't post a link you'll need to copy & paste this into your browser again - sorry :@ (I won't do any more until my ban is lifted, honest! ;) )
 
Well it's cracking on :) one thing though can the mods block Kevins pm's longer so he can't hide any ideas :rolf:
I think the simplicity of the basic steam locos is their charm, they are so simple that they're just fun, for much the same reason I picked up an old Hornby tinplate clockwork set.
One thing garden railways do well is appeal to those with a wider sense of imagination than having to recreate everything, I think it's the kid inside filling in the gaps that those who take it too seriously agonise over.
Or as Mike says Rule 8! ;)
