To the left is probably my favourite corner of Gav's railway. The way the trees are cut and set on that bend, and the way the track disappears round the curve is superb, That railway 'belongs' to the garden, so difficult to get right. It must be something about NZ (weather/sunshine) because JR's has similar sections that just draw you in.

I'm working on it Gav, slowly, but I'm working on it. Apart from today as I disapppeared into the workshop and lathed over a hot slave, so the kitchen fitters could get on undisturbed. :):)

Missus had a laugh when I told her what I'd posted. (Some people may not get the joke).

A spot of recovery work from Photobucket, managed to retrieve some of my stuff.

About 3 years young, night running on Taita Gorge.

From the pages of Garden Railways Magazine. Photo take early 2001. There was no more track behind the train.
Turnout was a Lionel one that I painstakingly painted (original yellow looked yuk).

Keen observers will notice a change to the bridge.... I've added an extra pier. Why, well in my haste to build the bridge (there was an open day coming up) I ran out of timber. Even though it sort of looked right, I knew that there was no way a 12x12 would span 24 ft.... not even on narrow gauge. So I've now corrected that to prototypical 12 ft spans. Taken at last light, this evening after a solid workout.

Climax 1203 getting away from the water tower at Taita Gorge this afternoon. Thirsty work, another stinking hot day.

Yes, the Company Photographer took shade under one of the many trees that adorn the railway.

One of those ray of sunshine moments, bit on the arty side. I'd just finished adding the bark chips around the fern. This is the Outback, viewed from the back lawn.

Sometimes, you can actually get the shadows to work to advantage.

Happens every time..... you pack up your gear, then, another shot beckons. A JR inspired 'through the trees' image.

DSC_0902.JPG

and now, for something completely usual, a standard 'going away' shot.

DSC_0903.JPG

I did try the enhance feature that my computer has on these photos, but it washed out the shadows.

Check out post #525...... if you can't see it in your browser, you'll find it on p.31 of the October issue of Garden Railways. That's next month, October 2018.

Spring, finally. Taita Gorge has been dewintered, and is back in action.

But, unfortunately, Gav (c'est moi) got rewintered.... week in bed. Much better now though, just been trimming some of the ferns back a bit. Should be getting some running in tomorrow.

A classic, and a newby. Fruits of the weekend's labours.

Through the trees shot was a view inspired by a glimpse of the line whilst pruning some scenery.

It's moss, growing, in part, over a boulder. Common name for it is New Zealand (how surprising) Moss, somewhat similar to Spanish Moss apparently.
JR did post the botanical name for this on this very thread.... hang on a sec, make that a minute or three, while I find it for you.
