Typical mid winter day in Wellington, just the chance to show off the latest addition to the Taita Gorge Railway, an Express car to go with the coach that's been here for 10 years.

The low setting sun does tend to attract awkward shadows.

Spring is upon us... Saturday just gone was a nice fine day to 'play trains', with the old faithful Big hauler with the new baggage car in the passenger train consist. Sunday was a dreary day, and being a bit crook, missed out on the local meet at Wayne's.

Five weeks in America, and no rain. Schedule a homecoming meet at Taita Gorge, and it rains (for the second time that it was my turn to host the Wellington Mob). 8|

:) But, the photographer that JR arranged turned up..... so we ran in the on and off rain. Previews of the running were quite interesting...... must photograph in the rain more often. JR will post the shots in due course.

Well here we are a few days late but I think you agree the photos that follow, all taken on Sunday, at the Wellington Garden Railway Group running day that was rained out, by John Seward.

I'll number the pictures so Gavin can later add some notes and tell us about what John pictures, though I'll add a few comments from what I know about the Taita Gorge Railway.

1. LGB Field Railway O&K loco on the main line near Haywards with Bachmann Climax in the log siding

I think the rain adds some extra atmosphere to an already detailed railway.

13. On the rear reverse loop, which is under quite a good cover of ferns etc, rather nice in the flesh but quite tricky for photography.

Do like that saddle tank lok.

Yes luckily Paul it wasn't a cold wet southerly, but still pretty heavy at times in the morning, but a lot lighter during the photo shoot I suspect.

And I think the Porter maybe one of the early Bachmann Porters that, if I remember correctly, is now unpowered having suffered terminal gear failure. Sometimes Gav double head this unpowered one with it's newer operating twin.

That's the Bachmann Porter saddle tank, the same thing that JR turned into the infamous Dubs 'A'. The original side tank version that I've got, has stripped a gear, and Bachmann don't want to know about it. I now also have the newer side tank version that runs like a dream.

Re:Taita Gorge Railway..... 13 years old

The new siding at Taita Gorge, made up of recycled leftovers from the last alterations. It's only temporary, as the permanent plan is for it to curve back towards the main loop. Meantime, I have a track suitable for visitors to setup on (if it stops raining on scheduled open days!).

I was looking for a reason for having such an unusual (ugly) bit of trackwork, then it dawned on me that it could be a wharf type siding.

Welcome to Petherick Pier.
