Don't know if this is of any help (suspect the method of attachment may not be suitable for your needs) but I buy brass rod and tube from alwayshobbies. The rod comes in many different diameters as does the tube and is approx 1 metre long (you can buy the 300mm stuff but it isn't as useful and is dearer). They do brass split pins which can serve as knobs or stantions. Just cut a short length of tube to effect the "stand off" from whatever you are fixing to and the rod goes through the eye of the split pin. The just clinch the split pin over on the other side if you can get to it!

A good place to try is any model shop (online or "real") that does model boat fittings - such ranges usually include brass handrail stanchions and/or complete ready-made handrail sections.

On a more positive note - I think Roundhouse sell the handrail knobs.

Garden Railway Sperialists in Princes Risborough do white metal stanchions in two different heights just add 1.6mm rod for the rail.

Depends if you want British or US.

Tenmille good for British, Gauge 1 strictly - as per the handrail on the tender in my avatar if you can see it.

Roundhouse, or PPS do a much fatter handrail with knobs that have threaded backnuts, as on my blue and yellow battery diesel.

Not sure about where you get the US stanchions with the big set-off - might have to talk to Steve the Shop at back2bay6.

Recomend Roundhouse ones. Also Brandbright do some nice cast handrails but of course lilited in use as they are fixed lengths.

If you hadn't seen it I never would have! I have mangled the odd one or two given the extremely close tolerance in the trailer:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
